Tonight I am hosting an art journalling class with my friends … My first time of having friends round to craft in ages as the last few planned sessions had to be cancelled as real life got in the way!
So I have got all excited about art journalling since the new year… And it is time to pass the enthusiasm to others!
I admit my first point of inspiration for the class plan was the layout I did for “Journal52” a couple of weeks ago. I got such nice comments as a result of posting this page on Facebook so I started with that as the idea! Go check out this post for the original!
I decided that the best way to do the class was to work on a loose sheet of card… It takes the scariness away of working directly in the journal for beginners. So I started with a 6×6 piece of card. There is a reason for this size… It looks nice in the 8×8 journal and it fits the Wilkinson box frame which I thought would be a good way of displaying the work each month.
I chose two colours of the Dylusions ink sprays… In this case the yellow and pink and sprayed it down one side of the card. Onto this I doodled some wiggly lines.
On some book print I stamped some flowers and then added some colour by washing some ink and water over them. I let them dry then cut them out and stuck them down on the layout over the wiggly lines.
I then forgot to take pictures! I added stamping over the flowers and wiggly lines using the leaves from the Summer Silhouettes stamp set.
On separate cardstock I stamped in Memento ink the Gorjuss girl and then coloured her with Promarkers and paper pieced her dress. I fussy cut her out and stuck her onto the layout. I then added more stamping of the little flowers from the Summer Silhouettes set in both black and melon mambo.
Next I outlined the girl, added some doodles to make her look more hand drawn, and added depth with the extra ink around the outside.
I stamped with little alpha stamps, the quote I chose for the page. I then cut out the quote in strips. These I then outlined with black doodle pen before sticking them onto the page.
Once I had everything onto the page I went back to outlining and adding depth with the warm grey Faber Castell big brush India ink pens. Love how they bring everything out from the background.
This photo above shows the page laying on the black journal … And the one below on the Kraft journal. Everyone for the class has got the Kraft journal, but there were not quite enough in stock at Hobbycraft so I chose a black one for mine. I like it on both so it really doesn’t matter either way. I think I may add a mat for it before I actually stick it in!
So this was sample one… Now for sample two… Done in exactly the same way, just a different colour scheme, focal stamp, quote and background stamps.
Now tonight’s class i was hoping to use a different focal stamp but unfortunately it hasn’t arrived in time, so going to have a hunt through my stamp collection for something that will work otherwise it will be the same stamp as the first sample. What’s more over the next few days I have a few more things up my sleeve showing how you can use the same techniques and idea to create some very different projects!
Now must get on… I have a class to get ready for!
