It is time for my monthly mixed media card class with my friends. My theory behind these classes is to take one stamp set and show a few different ways of using it that are not the usual ‘SU style’ and make some arty cards. We use different media and techniques we learnt together the past year or so when doing art journalling techniques.
Last month for various reasons i ended up cancelling the class so these cards have been waiting to be blogged for quite some time! So for this session the stamp set was Lovely as a Tree which is a real oldie but goodie!
I starter the samples off with a simple Brusho card.
Watercolour card stamped in Archival. Then added some drops of Gamboge and Brilliant Red to the trees and spritzer with water to activate and move the colour. Then added some Cobalt blue to the sky. I kept an eye on how the water and colour moved and dabbed it with a tissue if there were puddles of colour or too much water to soften the blend. Once it was dry I edged the card with some ink and then doodled the outline onto the Kraft card blank with a white paint pen.
Next sample I went for a distress ink background but made it a little different by cutting it into two panels.
I kept to autumnal colours again as I was avoiding green colours but this would work well with green instead of the oranges.
I stamped the leaf stamps in the background using the distress inks and then the oak leaves onto book print and then cut them out. I added some more blending of ink on them before adhering all the pieces to the black layer. I took a strip of black and gold embossed the sentiment and then hand cut it out. I do have the dies but was trying to avoid using them for this class. Finally I watered down a little gesso and flicked it onto the panels so that it gave a nice splatter effect.
The next sample was using some left over cardboard from the haul to gathered for making junk journals.
I mixed some blue gelato into some texture paste and then added it to the corrugated card. Next I stuck the stars into the texture paste and then let it dry out. Then added a little more gelatos with water onto the card. Again I let it dry out.
I then stamped the fir tree onto the cardboard a couple of times and then again onto some white card. I cut out the tree and adhered it to the card panel. Then I dabbed some texture paste onto the tree.
Then I added some stickles in silver down the card panel and rubbed them over the tree too. For the card base I broke it up with a black strip on which I stamped in white craft ink the little pine cone and sprig and edged the black strip with the white. The sentiment was stamped onto white and cut out.
The final card was a gelli plate trick with ink. I must admit it is not my best attempt but it gives the idea and in the class we might come up with better ways of doing it.
I blended Hello Honey and Bermuda Bay onto the gelli plate and stamped the leaves round the edge using Mossy Meadow then printed the image. Next I stamped the oak tree in Mossy meadow, tore a piece of scrap and brushed some mossy meadow under the tree as a shadow. Not the most inventive use of the gelli plate but maybe we will come up with some better ideas in the class?
