Paperartsy challenge journal – resist

So I have another resist journal page to share that I made this afternoon whilst trying to get up to date in my Paperartsy challenge journal.

So I decided today to grab some Hot Picks stamps… and went a little crazy busy with the stamping. Not my usual style at all but this is all about trying new things.

I used candle wax through a stencil for the first resist. You can probably see it shining a little on the page above.  But when I added the distress stain it resisted brilliantly.

There is also a big smear of wax on the right page which kept the white of the page underneath it.

Next I chose another stencil and added a bit of micro distress glaze through that and added more distress inks.

This was a more subtle resist and barely visible in the final page.

Next I took a new clarity stencil and decided to add Versamark through it and the clear emboss.  This would add another layer of resist over which I added the brown distress stain.

I think the one on the right didn’t work well because I hadn’t let the bottom layers dry enough so the powders tuck to more than the Versamark but still this journal isn’t about being perfect, it’s about experimenting.

Next I found a Secret Garden quote (I love this book and have an urge to read it again!).  I wrote out the quote on cream paper and added it with matt medium and it picked up some distress stain colour and blended nicely.

Final touches was some outlining and some paint splatters in Bora Bora and white gesso.

Loved the experiment and will repeat the candle through the stencil again plus Versamark through the stencil.  A cool way of revealing pattern and in this case a scene.

Happy crafting!

Catherine

PS I have started the reviews topic of fabric hardener but not finished it yet … will share as soon as it’s done!
