Tonight I decided to do a journal page in my Paperartsy challenge journal which is actually in time for joining in with the challenge. I decided to flip the white space on its head and do black space instead. Why? Just because I fancied starting with black gesso and not the usual white.
My pages in the moleskine are starting to get pretty wrinkly now so have to get quite a layer down regardless of what my plan is.
Here it is all wet and shiny…
And dry and matt!
Now what to do with it?
Started with finger painting some white gesso circles… then added some distress crayon.
This was just before I smudged it with water. I ended up with several layers of colour keeping to blues and greens with just a touch of yellow.
Decided to add some stamping in the circles and as I looked through my baskets of stamps I found the ones from Art Journey and knew I wanted to use them to create little peepholes into cities…
So I used just parts of the stamps to create the peepholes and then added the rough outlining with the Indian ink and a paintbrush. I chose the biggest circle for the sentiment.
Next I grabbed a white acrylic pen and added more doodling.
And finally added the splats of white gesso and the theme in the bottom left again in the white acrylic marker.
This was such a simple page to achieve a fab and fun result using partial stamping and keeping significant parts of the page as white (black) space.
You should also go and see what the fab dt have been upto with white space over at the Paperartsy blog.
Happy crafting!

What a fabulous page and so unusual xx
Great use of black as a quiet background, it gives a great contrast with your circles.
Gorgeous pages! Very clever – love it!
