Jar of flowers

Firstly I forgot how much I loved this combo of the jar of flowers stamps and the jar punch… but I also forgot how fiddly working with vellum can be if you don’t like seeing adhesive through the vellum! So let me explain what I did for this card.

Well I started with a cream base and used an old Memories and More card I had in the stash to make the background because that has some distraction just in case I needed it when it came to adhering the jar of flowers!

The flowers and stems I stamped, coloured and fussy cut from cream cardstock. What you can’t see is that I didn’t line them up to meet as I knew I would be adding the jar ‘lid’ so I skipped a bit and that helped me extend the length of the stems a little. But I actually ended up cutting them short in the end as they didn’t look right as the longer length! Ah well.

I then punched the jar from the vellum. Stampin up vellum is a nice weight of vellum to deal with and I would not want to do this with a lighter one as it would not sit as well on the card and may curl upwards or not emboss well.

I stamped and embossed the lid. Now I know if the jar did have a lid you wouldn’t be able to put the flowers in but I decided on artistic licence because I needed some part of the vellum jar to not be see through so I could use that part and the part where the twine was to add adhesive.

So once I had heat embossed I added glue behind the stamped element and then added the flowers. I then also tied the twine round so it went round the flowers as well as the jar.

Now I wanted to raise them a little off the background so I added some scraps of cardstock behind the flowers and then a little behind the stems in the jar this allowed the jar to slightly angle as I had more dimension behind the flowers than the stems which I hope means that the jar is less likely to bend upwards as I am not adhering the bottom as such!

What I did do to add to this though was to place a sentiment on both the jar and the background to try and anchor it in place further down.

I then added the little gold flower sequins as embellishment and called it done! What do you think?

I’ve made a lot of cards using the jar of flowers combo and still get pleasure out of doing so … so you can probably tell this one is staying in the stash for a little longer!

DT: Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes Birthday

Hello! Another day, another design team contribution. This is my creation for the Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes Birthday challenge and I once again have been delving into the pouches of half used supplies. Now this one uses flowers cut from the True Love dsp, a strip of Expressions in Ink dsp and a card from an old Memories and More pack. A bit of an eclectic mix … but I think it works well together … along with die cuts and the sentiment of course!

Those flowers are of course fabulous and although you can colour them, I decided black and white was just fine against the background of the card and with the strip of gold foiled stripes.

I did raise them up to give dimension and underneath I slid in some of the Splendid Stems die cut from black.

I decided to die cut the Happy and stack it three times for dimension and then added back in the pink from the background with the Biggest Wish birthday stamp.

I finished off with the black gems from my stash to keep with the drama of the black and pink.

Our amazing princess

Today was GCSE results day for my princess. I am writing this blog post ahead of time as I know that she will have done an amazing job on her GCSEs and at this point we will be out celebrating before packing for a holiday!

I know we will be proud of her regardless of the actual results so I made a card a few weeks ago in readiness …

I used a Dylusions background (promise there aren’t any more left from the stash I made years ago … might actually have to have some inky time sometime soon to make some more! 😀 )

I also used a Memories and More card, another dylusions background cut down and a die cut ring. Then I added some flowers I had stamped and fussy cut out, some black die cut leaves from the Cottage Flowers set and a ribbon.

I chose to then add a sentiment from the Amazing Phrasing saleabration set and finished off with some black gems.

Inside I added a strip I had cut off the background and a remaining flower onto a panel of white as I had chosen a black card base.

Just love this… if I get a chance I will edit this to add in the actual results… but if I don’t get a chance just know we are proud parents regardless!

Edited …all 10 GCSEs passed, she’s happy, we are happy and of course very proud… but then we already were… just have papers to explain one of the reasons why!

Scraps to tags – Birthday

I’ve joined in with a swap over at Twinchies, Inchies and More over on Facebook and the challenge is to use scraps to make 20 tags… so today’s blog is the 10 I made which are birthday themed… well not exactly all birthday, but non-Christmas ones! Tomorrow will be the turn of the Christmas ones!

So this is my scraps type piles and folders … so I popped them all onto the desk and started creating … using the fabulous Scalloped Tag punch to create 2″ wide bases into tags.

Apart from the sentiments and the ribbons (although some of these were also scraps) the ingredients for these tags were all on the desk or in the scraps folders … and the sentiments were also stamped on scraps!

I am amazed I could make so many lovely tags just from bits and pieces.

I used some of the Dylusions backgrounds I refound a while ago and have been slowly using up for the bases for some tags, I also used Memories and More cards for a few too, along with cutting them up as embellishments.

I also used flower images from the scraps of the True Love dsp that I keep in a pouch for when I want a simple floral element or off the edge flowers… some of these I coloured in, and others I just left black and white.

Love how colourful and bright these tags are.

Join me tomorrow to see the Christmas themed ones.

Desk clearing distraction

Is it just me? Whenever I set myself a task of clearing the desk and the piles of “stuff” that have accumulated I end up finding a “treasure” and making something! And the tidying up concept disappears! 😆

So this card is one of those creations!

I found another gelliprint ATCs that I had started and not finished and decided it worked perfectly with those Memories and More cards that I have been whittling my way through!

A scrap of the Pretty Peacock cardstock, a die cut and Forever gold laser cut and a few Artistically Inked flowers to embellish… with a cute little sentiment … and jobs a good’un … on the cardmaking front that is… the desk tidying… not so much!

Memories and More house card

Another card made using that Memories and More kit that is just sitting on my desk needing to be used up. I genuinely love this kit as the cards in it are so cute, perfect colour combos and art work … and because the kit is great value there is loads of it just sitting there still waiting to be used. So I am trying my hardest to work my way through it and create some fun cards from it.

I decided to grab the house card this time. Did some fussy cutting and then chose some other cards to start layering up.

To be honest I figured this was enough and called the card done. But then the next day before I took the photos I decided to also add some gems and I added the remaining part of the house card in the inside as an accent too.

I layered a few pieces and also added some punching to make the sentiment into a banner with the banner punch. I also added some of the stickers from the kit, a piece from the Forever Gold (turned upside down to be white) and a few die cut leaves from the Forever Greenery dies.

Bits and pieces card

Today I’m sharing a card made with bits and pieces off the desk. Does anyone else end up accumulating lots of bits from random projects and then feel you have to leave them in sight otherwise they will ‘go to waste’?

So I have a coaster on my desk on which stamped images and die cuts and random embellishments live…

I just can’t bring myself to either file away or throw out these little bits and pieces. And for good reason… sometimes the perfect project comes along that needs these pieces. This card is one such project and absolutely every part of this was sat on my desk waiting to be used!

Firstly … Memories and More cards … they do most of the hard work! Cute birds cut from one card, the Happy is another card cut down as is the floral piece and the dark green background.

The sentiment is one of the prestamped ones from another project. The die cut leaves are either in Pretty Peacock and die cuts from the Splendid Stems set, or the white side of the Forever gold laser cuts.

The gem is from the stash and then the linen thread is the last from the spool that I had on the desk … I’m now in a major panic to get another SU order in as I can’t live without this in my craftroom!

Even the card blank was just sitting on the desk waiting to be used!

This came together in about 10 mins and I am really happy with it!

Playing with Memories and More cards

Grabbed some more of those Memories and More cards I have kept on the desk to try and get some use out of them and made up this cute birthday card.

I added in a panel of the Pale Papaya which I had run through the alphabet embossing folder.

I then added the gorgeous image from the Splendid Thoughts set which I blended the green and blue inks over. I then added the little die cut in the Pale Papaya vellum as a sparkly accent.

I stamped the sentiment onto a strip cut off another one of the cards and cut a little bird out of the middle of the card I had put at the back as the accent embellishment.

Then I decided to grab the little flowers from the stash and add those too.

Really cute card. And I do love these Memories and More packs for providing everything you need to make colourful card toppers … I know they are meant to be for memory keeping really, but as I’ve fallen out of the habit of that at the moment, this is a really good use for them.

Splendid Thoughts and Ink Lift technique leftovers

A few days ago I shared some cards I made using the Jennifer Maguire ink lift technique I had seen on her YouTube video. Well I had a little panel leftover that was a second pull of ink.

This one was far paler and I wasn’t sure if I would use it but it was pretty so didn’t want to throw it away … so here it is in use and I wanted to play and just grabbed bits and pieces that were on my desk.

I mounted the panel onto Polished Pink and then decided to grab a Memories and More card that was pink based to use as a background. I didn’t want the focal image to show … but fortunately the mounted strip covered it up but I decided I wanted it to look less clean… so I added some blending and some ink splatters … I also added some splattered gesso for the white.

Next to choose a focal point. Well I decided to die cut a leaf shape from the Splendid Stems set and then stamp in Night of Navy and die cut the larger leaf image too from the coordinating Splendid Thoughts stamps. I also added some So Saffron colour by using the background leaf stamp over lapping a couple of times…. this creates an interesting texture to the added colour.

I decided to turn this into a birthday card (I’m starting to build up a stash for the next year of 17th birthdays for the princess’ friends) and so heat embossed the birthday from Biggest Wish and Happy from Cottage Rose onto the polished pink and Pretty Peacock scraps I had on the desk.

After fussy cutting the birthday and then matting and layering the Happy it was time to assemble… with dimension and foam in-between the layers!

I ended up curving the birthday sentiment a little as the middle dimension is bigger than the sides … but I think it looks cute.

I finished with some pretty bling gems!
