Tinsel Tuesday November sketch

Regular readers of my blog will know I am a fan of setting myself some challenges at the beginning of the year… Well I haven’t done so well at meeting the challenges … But you know what I don’t care. I join in when I feel like it, and can be pretty faddy at times so quite often after an obsession has passed, a new one will arrive. Having said that this month I have at least tried to do Tinsel Tuesday… Although only made it to one card!

20130904-183406.jpg

I wonder what you make from this sketch??? I made the following as a result of being inspired by the sketch…

20140717-230434-83074743.jpg

Ok I didn’t do the best job of keeping to the sketch but hey ho! This was really a big old inky bit of fun. Three layers of distress inked watercolour papers to create this vintage style card.

I used a mixture of Peeled Paint, Evergreen Bough, Weathered Wood & Fired Brick and some freebie HOTP stamps to create this. The diagonal line I switched direction on and used the snowflake stamp in Fired Brick to create in the bottom layer. I also ended up creating a sentiment topper too which wasn’t really in keeping with the sketch…but it was my starting point I promise!

So wonder if I will do anymore of my challenges… You will have to watch this space!

happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday October Sketch

Three quarters of the year has passed already… So really there is very little time left to be making your Christmas cards so time to join in with my challenge methinks!

This months sketch is

But I forgot to make any cards to match the sketch! Doh! Will try and do some in a couple of days… But for now… I have this card to share which I made at the weekend at a charity crop using some borrowed stamps from Helen!

I used the fun Festival of Trees stamp set and created this fun little card!

Sorry it is a rubbish pic… Will upload a better one tomorrow when battery back in my camera!

Happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday September sketch

Yes yes yes … It really is time for another Tinsel Tuesday sketch … Christmas is creeping up quite quickly now as children go back to school after the holidays so time to start Christmas card crafting to make sure you meet your end of year deadlines.

I create Christmas cards all year round (mainly because I am a little mad) because it helps me make sure I am ready when it gets to the mad month! This challenge I set at the beginning of the year to create two cards based on a sketch I provide on the first Tuesday of the month. I haven’t always managed it but have kept the challenge going regardless!

This month the sketch is…

IMG_7118.JPG

And this month I created two very different styles of card!

IMG_7121.JPG
I used Woodware stamps to create this simple card and coloured it with a mixture of inks. Quite fancy doing this one again with different colours like pink and blue for a funky themed one!

IMG_7112.JPG
This used some scraps I found of the fabulous Winter Frost DSP which I used in combination with come circles and a doily, and then the ornament from Ornament Keepsakes stamp set.

Love the different cards I made using the same sketch as the starting point!

Happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday August Sketch

This month I was ready for Tinsel Tuesday determined not be caught on the hop again!

Here is the sketch to inspire two cards…

20130904-012850.jpg

And here are my creations!

20140717-225802-82682899.jpg
Ok so I changed the sketch a bit and went for a rectangle rather than circle topper! But it’s there in some form! Ha ha ha! Used the fab Woodware Christmas tree stamp set and made some fun with Fired brick distress ink, using water to remove colour from some of the circles with one of the little star stamps. Also used some Nitwit papers that came with a magazine for the backgrounds.

20140717-230032-82832519.jpg
This one I flipped the sketch and again missed out the circle. Again plenty of distress ink, peeled paint, vintage photo, fired brick, another Woodware stamp and the same Nitwit papers. Also used the Claritystampsholly corners for the … well corners obviously!

Enjoy and happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday July Sketch

Ok it is official … I find starting the month on a Tuesday a little disconcerting because I forget about Tinsel Tuesday until the start of the month, then look for the first Tuesday only to find it is already upon me! Grrrrr! Ah well… Sketch was at the ready …

20130904-012653.jpg

And cards well to be honest I loved making them! Which bearing in mind I haven’t for the last two months (yes skipped June and May completely!)

Card One20140116-233412.jpg
I used a Paperartsy stamp from the stash for the main image, but also added some freebie HOTP edge stamp and the Sanded SU background stamp to make it even more grungy an image. Then I added the HOTP sentiment in black. I decided to team the Real red with the Basic Grey and black to make it quite dramatic, and then the modern dotty washi tape was a little pop I thought contrasted nicely. I love the word embossing folder and I did plenty of inking to define each layer. I also added the Claritystamps snowflake corner to the bottom layer of Basic Grey.

Card Two20140116-234153.jpg
Next up I stuck with the HOTP stamps and this time used the tree and the edge stamp. I also went with the Real Red and Old Olive combo … Classic Christmas colours after all?

I also used some of the Festival of Prints dsp stack from a couple of years ago and then the Argyle embossing folder to add texture to the vertical strip. I also added a black thin ribbon to finish it off. There are also some bit of stamping on the matting layers too, like the Claritystamps holly corner and the Sanded SU background stamp. These little touches finish it off brilliantly.

Hope you like what I did with the sketch this month. Let me know if you manage to join in. I love seeing what people make.

Happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday April Sketch

This months Tinsel Tuesday did rather catch me by surprise! With the first Tuesday of the month being on the 1st it came round a little quicker than I had planned for! In addition, I never got round to doing another card for last months sketch. I did try but everytime I looked at the sketch I couldn’t get myself into a Christmas mood. So this week I only have a sketch for you … No card yet to go with it but I really will try and get at least two done in the next week or so… And maybe if I get a chance catch up with the one for March!

Having said all that I couldn’t not post a make today and it is Christmas themed so watch this space as I have another post coming up in a moment!

Happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday March sketch

Third month of Tinsel Tuesday has come round so quickly! So far I have made 4 cards for Christmas already following the first two sketches…

What’s more I am not the only one. Karen joined in again last month and sent me this picture of her three creations based around the sketch I provided!

20140209-210757.jpg
Aren’t they fab? And so different each of them although using a similar colour scheme for all three. Well done Karen! Love them!

This months sketch is here for you to join in too!

20130904-011545.jpg

I used the sketch to create this card…

20140224-225248.jpg

This was a bit of an experiment! I used a card blank that I had stamped for the cards I made my cousin last year and ran out of toppers for … Never one to throw away I have a stash of these so expect to see more appear during the year! Ha ha!

I then added a topper which I created using the Papermania background stamp stamped in Soft Suede and inked the edges of. I decided to emulate the starburst by inking some lines with the Rich Razzleberry and a sponge. Not sure about whether this worked or not … But hey as I said this was a bit of an experiment card!

Then I created a little extra topper from the stamp off this months Craft Stamper magazine and water coloured it with the same ink.

I decided it needed a little colour so added mats in Rich Razzleberry, and a gold punched border and then a strip of lovely ribbon to finish it off!

Now I come to a small problem … I didn’t get round to making a second card as decided last night to get on with painting the bathroom instead! So before the month is out I will get round to doing the other card and will share it with you on another Tuesday instead!

For now though … Happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday February sketch

Hello there… It is the first Tuesday of the month and so time to reveal the Tinsel Tuesday sketch for this month…

20130904-011003.jpg

This year I am challenging myself to make 2 cards in each month based on a sketch. To make my life easier I can do 2 of the same or similar cards if I choose, but I could also make 2 completely different cards, as long as the starting point is the sketch! I encourage you to join in … Obviously you don’t have to make 2 … But this way I will have made 12 cards by Christmas … So why not join me and at least make a few along the way. My friend Karen joined in last month and created this…

20140108-222602.jpg

Isn’t it lovely?

My friend Helen also joined in … Although if you pop to her blog post you may see something a bit different about her Tinsel Tuesday interpretation!

So this month using the sketch above these are the cards I made.

I started with a Classic Christmassy combination of Real Red and Old Olive… Can’t get much more Christmassy than that can you?

I started with a 3″ square of whisper white and stamped the clarity holly corner in the Old Olive. I added some sponged ink too to blend it, and then the holly berries were treated to some of the Real red using a Stampin write marker. Then there were some layers of cardstock to cut out. I kept to the two colours rather than mixing them. For the embossed words I added ink after embossing to give it more definition, and the same with the Argyle embossed pennant.

I decided to add the sentiment by punching it out with the Modern Bauble Punch and then inking that. I also added a little bow of bakers twine and added this on dimensionals.

20140116-233004.jpg
The extra little touches you may be able to make out are that each flat layer has been stamped in some way… Either the corners have the holly stamp added plus there is a second generation snowflake on the bauble. This adds something a bit different and I enjoyed putting all the effort in!

Next up I decided to use the Michael Powell stamp I got in the sale and have never used. I coloured it with Stampin write markers and blender pens. I need more practice at this as especially in the sky it was very difficult to blend. But never mind!

I added clarity corners and plenty of inking to finish the diamond off.

20140121-192308.jpg
I added the diamond to some Night of Navy cardstock as a mount, and then to a piece of Marina Mist cardstock onto which I added more snowflakes and inking. Then finally another mount of Night of Navy cardstock.

I then added some glossy accents to the windows of the houses and some crystal stickles to the fairy lights to add the dimension and different texture.

This is quite a large card topper and I intend to add it to a large 8×8″ card blank. I have however not completely followed the sketch but as the topper I made was quite busy I decided it was better to leave the other elements off rather than make it too busy. But hey it’s my challenge if I choose to I will break the rules!

Why don’t you join in with my challenge?

Happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday January sketch

Hi there! I am hoping that you are not all thinking me completely mad for starting already on the Christmas cards? Well ok I am a little mad … But if I start now I know I will have them done and won’t be rushing at the end of the year, plus I do love making Christmas cards most of the year so it is no bad thing! To be honest though I probably need make very few this year as I have a surplus … But this might make me eat through the stash I have of Christmas crafting supplies and hopefully remind me not to buy more this year!

So this year rather than a sketch a week for this challenge I am going to provide one sketch a month. From this sketch I am then challenging myself to make two cards. Now these could be 2 of the same, or similar cards, or 2 entirely different cards, just based in the same sketch. Why don’t you join me in seeing if you can create something lovely from the sketch … I would love to see what you make of it!

So first you need to see the sketch!

20130904-010759.jpg

And here are the cards I have made using this sketch… Well actually I have only made card toppers… I decided that instead of mounting these and then having to store the card and envelope as well, I would instead make card fronts, and then mount them at the time I need them instead!

Anyways I digress…

First up … Gumball Green, Midnight Muse & Basic Black

20140106-233246.jpg

My first card I wanted to use the gorgeous intertwining leaf that my dear friend Darcy designed for Paperartsy to create a background. I stamped it in Gumball Green and then used the aqua painter to colour ink with the ink, adding some definition to leaves. Then I stamped the word Joy from a freebie magazine set (HOTP I think) and a random dotty background stamp in the Midnight Muse although stamped it off first to make it more muted. On separate piece of whisper white I die cut the shape (a strange bauble type shape that I got a long time ago and barely used) and then stamped in the random Latin type text background stamp in a way so that not all of it stamped. Then over this I stamped the reindeer from the same freebie magazine set in Midnight Muse. I then used an old distress Stampin spot I got in a distressing kit from SU ages ago in a charcoal to edge both pieces with some sponge. I mounted the square piece onto Basic black and then onto some brushed gold cardstock from the scraps box, then added the bauble piece at the side. Next I took a scrap of Gumball Green and cut a pennant, which I also distressed, and then stamped and punched the sentiment using the That’s the Ticket stamps and again distressed the edges of that to unify it.

Love how this card came out … So different from my usual style and yet at the same time so me!!!

Right next up a different card completely.

20140106-234105.jpg

I used some of the fab Winter Frost dsp … There are two papers where the pattern is the same but the colours inverted, so I took both of these and layered them up so the pattern continued. I then added the panel of the Basic Black which I embossed using a Saleabration sneak peek … Decorative Dots and then sponged the Whisper White craft ink onto to tone it down. The circular element from the sketch took shape in the form of a punched bauble using the Modern Ornament punch from another piece of Winter Frost dsp, and added the little satin black bow. When I fixed this to the card I used dimensional foam pads to raise it up and give it some more texture. Next the sentiment strip was a piece of whisper white, stamped in Bermuda Bay using a Woodware stamp. I edge the panel with the distress charcoal ink and then used a little star rhinestone to add the sparkle. I felt it needed edging as a topper. So I chose the basic black cardstock to finish it off!

So how about that … Two different cards from the same sketch.

Enjoy! Oh and let me know if you manage to join in this month … Will be back next month with another sketch to inspire you!

Happy crafting!

Catherine

New year … New challenges!

Happy new year everyone! Thanks for popping along to my blog during 2013! And here’s to another year of fun and crafting!

Now last year I ran a couple of challenges … Firstly a weekly Christmas card sketch challenge Tinsel Tuesday and secondly Moments & Memories a scrapping sketch challenge. I loved doing both of these and so have decided that I will continue both with a few differences though!

For Tinsel Tuesday I am only going to run one sketch a month for Christmas and challenge myself to make two cards using the sketch instead … So join me on next Tuesday for this challenge! Sometimes this will be 2 of the same card and sometimes 2 different cards using the same sketch as the basis! Why not more? Well because I have a surplus of cards left from last years making (and the year before) so going to reduce my Christmas card making a little this year. I have already gifted some cards as Christmas presents but still have a large stash to be getting on with … But as I still love Christmas card making … I am going to keep up this challenge in some form… But will only have added to the stash by 24 at the end of the year…. Rather than with 52 as per last years challenge!

Now Moments & Memories will be run throughout the year with one sketch which I will share with you later today! Yes one sketch to last the year and I will create a total of 12 pages using the sketch as the basis!!! I’ve never managed to make 12 based on one sketch before and have no idea if it will be possible or not but hoping that I choose a good one that proves easy!

Finally I will have a new challenge!!! Yes another one! I have really loved scrapping for the past year and so I figure a weekly scrap challenge is in order! Thursday Treasures… This time there will be a sketch, prompt, theme, colour scheme or photo prompt to get the creative juices flowing! So join me tomorrow to see what I get upto!
