Claire’s Patwits circle journal page

Hello!

Today some art journaling to share… this time in Claire’s Patwits circle journal which has safely arrived with the next recipient!

She provided a piece of watercolour card and an envelope for us to decorate as we please but to include typography somewhere!

Well I add book pages and some stamping which should meet the criteria!

I started with a distress oxide background and chose yellows and browns for the main colours as I fancied doing a vintage style page.  I added lots of hot picks stamping in the background and then layered a few pieces of bookprint I had also added distress oxides to.

The main feature I chose a Hot Picks hot air balloon and stamped it using archival onto bookprint and then added versamark and embossing powder all over to give it a waxy appearance and a glossy finish.

I layered it up with some Angel hair to add texture.

I added the whole panel to a piece of patterned paper that I added the embossing powder border to. I love the texture and colour this added.

Finally I added Inktense pencil shading round the edge of the layers and the title stickers and some doodling. Oh and some added sparkle with some shimmer ink splats.

The envelope I went for a more organic finish. I added gesso and modelling paste with a palette knife and then stamped some Lin Brown stamps and used the fresco finish paints to add colour. I mainly painted with my fingers to blend it nicely.

I also added some of the Sparks paint and then the feature of the mini stamp which I stamped and then added the top layer by stamping onto a piece of cardstock I had painted the Sparks paint onto and then cut out the hand and pen image and layered it up.  I love how this came out. Simple but effective.

Happy crafting!

PATWITS circle journal… Jule’s journal

Hello… another circle journal contribution to share today. And this month I had Julie Bell’s journal.  Her construction was similar to others but with a lovely hard cover and it made it easy to flatten the pages to work in. I decided I wanted to keep it to flat pages and so glued the envelope flap shut. She also gave us each a piece of patterned paper and a mini envelope to keep or use… let’s see what I did.

First I started with fresco finish paints… mermaid, Jade, Beach hut, South Pacific.  I also added some blueberry and amethyst.

Next I added texture paste coloured with Jade through a Paperartsy stencil. I love this numbers stencil.  I then started with stamping and adding flicks of colour adding in the contrasting colour of Butternut.

I’ve realised now that this picture does not show the colour very well… oh well… you’ll see at the end the real colours… especially in the closeups.

I decided to add leaves to the page… so i stamped in versamark the leaves from the Lin Brown Paperartsy set and then embossed with sticky powder. Then I added gilding flakes.  Then I stamped the smaller leaves and heat embossed those with a dark mahogany colour.

Love how these contrasted with the background. Then I built up a cluster for a focal point. The mini envelope which I added texture paste to through the same stencil, and butternut paint over the Jade with the crackle effect and i sanded it back a little to keep the rustic effect. A piece of gold shimmer paper I added gilding flakes to and tore it, and then some book print pages

provided some interesting laters. I then found the dream catcher wooden piece which I painted and added some of the Sparks paint to … I love the Sparks paints for giving a really sparkly finish.

I added some different threads to the dream catcher for some softer texture and a sequin in the centre. Then added the sticker sentiments from Tim Holtz which spoke to me for the layout.

I them set to with an Inktense pencil and water brush to add some shading and edging.

I love this layout and am really proud of it.  Just hope Jules loves it as much as I do!

Hope you like seeing it too.

Happy crafting!

Deb’s Patwits circle journalĀ

Hello there

I have another circle journal page to share for the Patwits envelope journal. This time it is Deborah’s journal and her construction is similar to mine but bigger!

I decided to go all Teesha Moore style. I started with painting the envelope with the Bora Bora paint.
I then cut a piece of paper to the size of envelope (not the base where it opens) and added a base of Autumn fire Paperartsy fresco finish paint and then added all the magazine collage papers.  I then added stamping to them using a mix of number and word stamps from my Hot Picks stamp sets.

I then stamped the queen stamp onto some paper I had coloured with Paperartsy fresco finish paint. I then added that to the envelope and added black paint for the borders and then some doodling and the sentiment.  I used white paint pen to add the dots.

I then added some dots through the stencil for the inside part of the envelope still visible as it needed some pattern too!

Next I decorated a tag to peek out of the envelope.  The envelope is partly sealed which means it fits perfectly in the gap and sits in the middle!

I decorated both sides … but the back gas a message for Debs so only showing the front of the tag here…

I used brushos and distress stains to add colour and then black paint through a stencil to add the zig zags.  Then I used gesso to mute a bit of the colour and pattern and added Darcy’s feather stamp and gilded it with the gilding flakes.

I added the tiny dots to add some interest to the left hand zig zags and then stamped the sentiment from the same Darcy stamp set onto a scrap of paper I had stamped a background onto with Distress oxide. I cut that out and added that on the top.

And a sneak peek of the other side of the tag…  I used distress oxides and another Paperartsy stamp set to create this autumnal leaf tag! I stamped the leaves with a mix of archival inks to make it a red and brown leaf and then clear embossed… I love my stamp platform for making these techniques so easy!

So there you go… another Patwits circle journal page complete. I hope Debs likes my experimental Teesha Moore style page.

PATWITS circle journal… for Linda

Today I get to share the journal page I made for Linda for the circle journal I am involved with. The rules of this were to decorate one side of the envelope, use Paperartsy products and to decorate the mini envelope somehow.

Well I made a video … it is speeded up to condense several sessions into one watchable video…. of the process I went through to make this…

The way Linda had constructed her journal allowed me to add some embellishments from the Artful Days goodie box too so it is quite a 3D page… but her journal still closes nicely.

Hopefully she likes it… And you enjoy the process video

Circle journal for Chris

Today I finally get to share what I made for Chris’ circle journal. She had made her journal using cardboard envelopes… so fab and very unlikely to fall apart with using mediums on them as they are nice and sturdy. She also had a fab idea of giving some prompts and the one I had for mine was to include numbers of different kinds on it. So I went to town with the numbers!

Here was the first layer I created.

I used plenty of soft and earthy colours of Fresco finish paints to create the background and then added stamped numbers from lots of different Paperartsy sets.

Then using an Andy Skinner stencil I added some iridescent medium. Then I left it to dry.

The next day I added some more paint to tone down the background a little and added some stencilling, splatters and marks with the edge of a credit card.

I must admit I still wasn’t sure what to so with this page next. I grabbed some paper that had an index from an atlas on it, ripped it and added distress oxide in fired brick and vintage photo and then the mojo started to work properly. Next thing I knew I had been sewing on the machine and by hand, stamping the main image. Stamping and embossing with frantage and I had this lovely sewing themed page.

The finishing touches were to add some Tim Holtz stickers (including some number ones) adding some inktense to them.

I am so pleased with how this ended up. I really had no idea where to go with it but it came together beautifully and I enjoyed making it immensely. Just hope Chris likes what I did.

Happy crafting!

PATWITS circle journal #3

Time for a new circle journal round to start and this time we are making journals where envelopes are the feature.

So here is my journal.  I used some cream envelopes which are 5×7 and stuck them together and then sewed it and added washi tape to the spines.

I then added a cover from some kraft cardstock and glued the inside of the journal and the cover together.

Then I set to on decorating the cover.   I used the fresco finish paints to lay down some colour and then added some stamping in the paint too.  Then I used a Paperartsy stencil to add some iridescent medium.  Then finally I added the title and the stickers.

Then the inside page I went for a purple colour scheme. I also went a little Darcy heart crazy! Then inside the pocket created by the envelope I added a card onto the back of which I put my “rules” for the journal.

So my journal is off on a journey to other lovely artists for the next year. Looking forward to seeing what happens to it and to receiving and playing in the journals I get.

Happy crafting!

Replacement Patwits journal pages

Unfortunately one of our circle journals never made it back to its owner … and the lovely Chris who organises us all is without her journal. Some of us have made her pages to bind into a journal in the hope that it goes some way to replacing the lost artwork.

Here is what I made…

I added black gesso through the stencil, then some washi tape and then lots of bright brushos and added Matt medium to stabilise them. I love how this dragged some of the gesso across in streaks too.

I then stamped onto separate panel the Hot Picks image and adhered that. Then stamped the sentiment below. I kept this page quite simple with just a little bit of gold pen accents.

The other side however was far more detailed and I’ve done this on YouTube so you can check out my process.

However here is the finished page.

The whole process took several hours but I managed to get the video down to about 10 mins.

I was on a roll and thought why not make another page.

I love paper piecing the Clare Lloyd girl. And the colours for this page really spoke to me.  The reverse side I have a different feel but with similar colours with the fun Lin Brown house stamp.

Happy crafting!
