Post class round up – gelatos

I’ve realised I never got round to sharing what we did actually make at the gelatos session on Tuesday…  well we made a great big mess!

Yes this was the table post session… piles of stash, scraps and many many many baby wipes! Lol!

Ok so what did we actually make.

Well the samples I shared on Tuesday but on the night we made some different stuff but using the same techniques. None of us really finished out projects but most of us got close on at least one…

First our scrapbook pages…

Then our sunset cards…

Next our stencilled background cards (mine and Karen’s ended up as starts of ATCs)…

The dragonfly one just above was a a demonstration I did. Unfortunately we ran out of time for doing this one.

Once I have finished some of these off properly  (of the ones that are mine!) I will share more pics.

Happy crafting!

Just one gelato… well maybe a whole load of them? (184)

Tonight some of the usual gang are coming over to mine to play with gelatos. Here are the samples I made.

First an ombre blended background with a silhouette die cut and stamped sentiment.

Next a background with loads of stencilling and some lovely Lin Brown stamps.

And then I promised a scrap page… always a challenge to teach as it will depend on the photos they want to scrap as to what might be suitable.  With that in mind the papers are fairly generic from American Crafts 6×6 pad and I used modelling paste to add texture.  Then I used the packaging technique for adding the gelatos.

And finally an ATC  (of course) using resist in the background and then diecutting the ombre background for the hot air balloon.

So a bit of a mixed bag of projects but hopefully something for everyone!

Happy crafting!

Scrapping, Gelatos and YouTube

I did some scrapping last weekend.  For the first time unprompted and I had such fun. I even did it on camera! Yes another YouTube video for you!

The main plan was to use gelatos and some of the February Artful Days goodie box stash.. and just to play.

So happy with how this ended up. Definitely inspired by Missy Whidden YouTube videos and loving the mixed media style.  So many textures and colours.

Thanks for getting me back into scrapping Helen.

Gelatos art… Create Joy

Today I am off to scale the heights of the trees in delamere forest with the princess and her bestie… wish me luck. I also have another YouTube video to share with you that I made on Friday and for a change it doesn’t have anything to do with Distress Oxides.

Instead the medium of choice was gelatos!

I made a piece of art using some packaging as the base and then used gelatos and stash from the Artful Days goodie box from February.

Here it is framed on the bookcase… complete with the curling brush I’ve just noticed!

And pre framing an extreme closeup!

And here it is in the light but in its frame!

Hope you manage to pop to my YouTube video to see the process. I really enjoyed this challenge.

For ATC’S sake … 65, 66 and 67

There are three more ATC’S I’ve got to share with you today using the above pieces of scratch paper I cut using the Tim Holtz atc bigz die.

I started with some gelatos to add some colour and blended with water and my finger. I love how the distress stain stayed in patches and then some of the iridescent medium which also shone through the gelatos.

Next I used a baby wipe and took some of the colour away through a stencil. I love this technique and the subtle finish it provides.

Another stencil and then added ink through it. I also decided to rip one of the pieces a little to create a smaller topper.

I mounted that smaller piece onto a piece of patterned paper which has some gold inlaid. Then I added washi tape to two of them and some wax paper to the middle one.  The final one on the right I stamped the lady image to add the focal point.

Finishing touches time…

Some embellishments layered with cotton thread and some neon pink gems. Then some words chosen and then some inking round the edges.

Another quote and a bit of outlining and then a pink heart brad. Plenty of inking too. Love this mix of grunge and prettiness.

The final one is the one with the stamped lady.

I added twine and a charm and a couple of the chit chat words. And of course some inking round the edges.  Love the vintage feel to this one.

So there we have it … three more for the challenge total… 324 to go! ahem… that seems like rather a lot… ah well wouldn’t be a challenge if it wasn’t challenging!

Happy crafting!

Artful Days Goodie Box, Gelatos, Faber Castell

A little framed canvas

Well I have something a bit different to share tonight…. a canvas I made and framed… not an ATC in sight!

This is how I started.  A 3×3 canvas board which I gessoed and then added the time Holtz tissue paper to it. All the goodies I used (except gelatos) are from the Artful days goodie box from December.

To this I added gelatos in a mixture of lime and yellow.  I then used a stencil and baby wipe to remove some colour.

Then I went to town on embellishments from the Artful Days goodie box…

Once I had layered them up I adhered them and added the whole piece to some dark brown cardstock so I could frame it in the box frame I had to hand.

I also added a sentiment from the Tim Holtz stickers I had in the stash.

How lovely is this? And super simple to make. Loved playing with the goodies and creating this piece to go on the craft room wall.

Atc class with the inky fingered Cat gang (for ATC’S sake 13, 14, 15)

Tonight I have the crafty gang back at my house for mixed media fun. With everything happening last year we had to cancel last year by July so it’s been a long time since we’ve got together… I expect there will be a lot of chatting … perhaps more than crafting! Ha ha ha… I shall have to crack the whip!

The request for the class was to create atcs of the sort I made for the Artful Days goodie box a few months ago.  So I came up with the following three ideas.

This is a mix of distress ink, stickers, book print, embossing and iridescent medium through a stencil.

This is gelatos, tissue paper, trim, gilding wax and embellishments and finished off with some liquid pearls.

This is using paint as the medium and including stamping and different textured pieces of media. I love the metallic blue frame and the glittery gold combination inside the frame.

Wonder if the ones we make will be anywhere close to these samples? Or if we just spend the night chatting!

Either way… three more ATC’S for the challenge…

Happy crafting!

Mixed media card class… flutterbys

Tonight it is time to make cards with my friends and this time I decided to make a whole load of butterfly cards.  I gathered four stamp sets with butterflies and used different medium and techniques to make the samples.  Wonder how the gang will get on with them?

Love how varied they are and how lovely they all are.

Gelatos, Faber Castell, Masks/Stencils, Off the Grid, Use them or Lose them

Use them or lose them #16 project #2

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use! This week I am playing with the Off the Grid background stamp and decided that I needed to see it in art journalling mode to see if changed my mind and became a must keep!

A few weeks ago I had some paint left on my palette from other play and decided to start adding it to a page that already had a fair amount of pattern and stuff applied!   I always add any bits that are leftover from other projects to random places in my journal and this had some paint, ink and glossy texture paste already applied through stencils.

So I added some pink, lime green and pale blue paint.  None of these are expensive paints and all quite translucent which means that all the pattern and other colours are still very visible.  I have no idea at this stage where I am going with this but I am loving the colour and the patterns.

The next time I went to play I decided to make use of some scrap paper I had used underneath an ATC project and as a palette for my paints… I drew some rough circles on the interesting colours and patterns.

Then I cut out the circles and started laying them out in the journal.
Love the contrast between the page and the circles… gorgeous.

I decided it needed more though and decided that circles would be the enduring theme. At the same time as all this play the lovely Helen lost her Mum and this very much was on my mind as I played in the journal… and certainly made me choose the quote for the page.

Anyway…. I smeared some gelatos in circles around the page and then added some gesso to them and created a few others with just gesso.

More gelatos added and smeared around… then time to add some black.

I used some Indian ink and a paintbrush to added the lines around the circles. Love the way this worked, even though it was scary that the black could go very wrong.

Next I added the Off the Grid stamp in archival randomly round the page.

Next I added the paper circles and adhered them with matt medium. I felt they needed more definition so out came the Indian ink again.

I added connecting circles and dots of the ink all around the page and then chose the quote.

I first hand wrote the quote using a fountain pen and purple ink but it didn’t work well enough so back to the ink and paintbrush again.

Love how this page came out and love the totally random way it developed. Love the grid contrast with the circles but still thinking that the stamp needs to go.

Well I suppose this is what this challenge is about … do I really need what I am trying out. And in this case even though I like it, no I don’t need this stamp.

Happy crafting!

Late edit… my friend Chris commented to me that she like the use of white space in this layout… which I hadn’t thought about at the time of posting. Now you might be looking at my layout and thinking where is the white space… well the entire background becomes the white space whilst the circles become the none white space …and guess what the current Paperartsy
blog theme is… yes white space… as Darcy reminded us in the explanation and example post, white space doesnt have to be white, or devoid of pattern! So I am linking this to the challenge over there as an example of non white and not thought through aka unintentional white space!

Gelatos, Faber Castell, Off the Grid, Stampotique, Use them or Lose them

Use them or lose them #16 Off the Grid

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!

This week I thought I would see where the small background stamp Off the Grid would take me.  I haven’t used this stamp anywhere near as much as I thought I would and no idea why.

I decided to build some backgrounds using it and some gelatos.

The first lot of stamping was using Old Olive ink and then just started building up the gelatos in layers.

A few different colours… and then some more stamping, this time using the gelatos to stamp with.

I left this to dry and grabbed some Stampotique flowers I had stamped back in February when I was at Art from the Heart.  I coloured them with gelatos and cut them out.

I then added some silk thread and a sentiment and edged the panel and the Old Olive mount.  Perfect modern, fun and arty cards.

So what do I think of the stamp? Well even though I love the results of this I could easily have used another background stamp and the grid stamp still doesn’t strike me as one I would grab time and time again (unlike dictionary or hand carved) so I think this might be going in the lose it pile.

Will give it one more play later this week and then decide for sure.

Happy crafting!
