Mini pink canvas

Today I have a mini canvas to share with you that I’ve made for a swap. The theme for the swap is pink and to raise awareness of breast cancer.

So let’s talk about that first. I have several breast cancer survivors in my group of friends and unfortunately one friend who lost her fight a few years ago. So understandably this is something close to my heart!

What can you do? Well …

  • checking yourself monthly for changes and abnormalities is one simple thing. Catching it early significantly improves your chances of surviving.
  • Attending routine screening appointments is another simple thing… if they send you an appointment through the post, prioritise it… you are important and your health is critically important.
  • Spread the message… these two things are simple to tell people about.

And finally… support charities who are supporting those with cancer and those trying to find cures… do what you can and we can hope for a future where breast cancer isn’t an issue.

Ok … So now the crafting… I made a 4×4 canvas board and videoed the process… it’s always fun to watch me create after all!!! (Well that’s what I am told).

And here are some close ups…. it was nice to just play with no real expectation of the outcome.

Love the sentiment from Badass artchick stamps too! It felt so right for this project theme.

Happy crafting!

A bulk load of random ATC’S 107-116

I caught up with a few random ATC’S last weekend…. no themes… just playing with bits and pieces on the desk!

Texture paste and stencilling and bistre powder and gilding wax… interesting combo!

Gelli print on book print and a Crazy cat Coloured with Spectrum noir pencils! Fun!

Painty background, stamping and some opal magic paint highlights.

Same as above! Just different stamping.

Mish mash of backgrounds and techniques finished with heat embossing.

A gorgeous butterfly embellishment I received in a swap with a few layers underneath.

More embossing on painty layers.

A fun flower on a Gelli print background.

A piece of master board I created for a circle journal finishes with a rub on doodled flower.

Paint and tissue and stamping … oh and a butterfly …. what more could you want? Love these Finnabair stamps.

That’s me for today… another 10 for the tally… all of which listed onto swap sites so who knows where they will end up?!?

Happy crafting!

Butterfly basics, Infusions - Paperartsy, Masks/Stencils, Ribbons

For ATC’S sake … 8

A single ATC to share today. This is a piece of scratch paper I then added some leftover texture paste through a stencil and edged with black gesso…  as you can see there is plenty going on in the background on this one so time to pull it together into something.

I decided the colour needed unifying a little more… so Blackberry Infusions got added onto the card with some water.

Once dry this gave it a lovely warm brown/purple colour.

I then added some stamping using the Butterfly Basics stamp set. There are some lovely little stamps in this set… shold remember it more often! I decided to then add some lovely wide lace and some little tags (with a brad) from the embellishment box and a stamped butterfly. aso I acted the butterfly to stand out I stamped it onto the turquoise patterned paper.

Love the bright pop of colour the butterfly added!

Finished off with the quote from the same stamp set but cut it up and added it as strips.  I then added some doodling and some gems to the butterfly.

Love how this one came out! another one done in the 365 challenge for 2017!

Happy crafting !

Journal page … another Maremismallart inspired page

I shared with you one page last week where I had been inspired by the You tube videos from Maremismallart.  Here is the facing page I did the background at the same time using the same products.
I didn’t want the page to be a continuation but to complement each other.

Well Marta of Maremismallart inspired me with another video where she used scrapbook stickers to create a collage set of ATC’S and I realised that I have loads of scrapbook stickers I am unlikely to ever use so I grabbed some vintage ones that work with the colour scheme.

I added some corrugated card, gems, glass beads gel and pearl beads and washi tape and some gesso to bring it all together.  This is it drying.

Look at the lovely sparkle and texture.

I would never have dreamed of doing this if I hadn’t watched Marta on her You tube videos. She really is so inspiring.

Once it was dry it was time to add the finishing touches but had to be careful not to go overboard and ruin this delicately balanced page.

I chose to add some definition with Pitt pens along the edges of the collage and then some dots and highlights with a white paint pen.

And here is the page in full…

And with the facing page…

I love love love how both these pages came out. So beautiful and vintage and not my usual style. I also incorporated some of the techniques from the SETH Apter day too but they are mainly inspired by Marta from Maremismallart. You should check out her amazing You tube channel.

Paperartsy challenge journalĀ

Oh I am on big style catch up again with my Paperartsy challenge journal.  The theme I am sharing today was from ages ago and was colour mixing.

I started with Infusions as a background and decided my colour scheme would be all from the pinks and blues families. When it was wet it looked very vibrant but it did dry slightly paler.  There is also a touch of green and light turquoise showing through from the previous page.

You can probably see that the pages in my moleskine are also pretty fragile and starting to fall out so I had to rescue this with some tape down the middle.

Anyways this sat on my desk in the piles of stuff to do for quite some time! I next added to it on Wednesday night and this is where it got to…

I added a doily over the tape to disguise it a little and add some texture. Then lots of stencils and stamps with paint and texture paste. Love the Lin Brown stamps I used …. love those mosaic type circles and the rough stripes like printing with corrugated card. Also like the new Andy Skinner stencil I bought which is a mask of numbers and letters. I can see me using that a lot. The final layer for this session was some Borganvillia coloured texture paste through the honeycomb stencil.  Then I left that to dry and went to bed.

Three next night I grabbed the fabulous Artful blooms stamp set and started creating my focal point for the page.

Of course stamping over texture paste in an already bulky journal is not easy nor does it lend itself to perfect images..  but I wasn’t worried about that as I know a black pen can solve these issues later. I also did lots of flicks of white and pink paint over the top… lovely yummy splats!

Next it was time to grab pens and start doodling… yes I’m still on my Seth Apter journey with the mark making! The bad news is I am in bed with a terrible cold (the rest of the household are also suffering!) But the good news is that I can doodle in bed in between snoozing.

I used both a brush Pitt marker in black and sharpie white paint pen to outline, add definition, scribble and doodle. I then used a couple of grey big brush Pitt pens to add shading for the flowers to bring them out more.

So this theme was colour mixing and I guess as I am pretty confident with my colour knowledge I just went for the colours I like best and they are from the blue and pink families. Love how the page came out… and glad I am one page nearer to catching up!

Inspired by Maremismallart

I’ve been watching you tube videos by Marta from Maremismallart for a while now. I love them. She is inspirational in the way she creates with ease and joy. I also love her butterfly obsession!

Recently I watched some of her texture based tutorials and it inspired me to get started on a journal page in my Dylusions journal. I made this over several days grabbing 5 minute sessions whenever I could and shared progress on instagram as I went along.

I grabbed book paper and then gesso and here is the first layer.

Already I have a good feeling about this page. Next I added some Paperartsy Infusions… I’ve still got my friends little box of them.  This is them still a little bit wet.

Once this was dry I added more and some more gesso too. I used my palette knife for adding the gesso to keep adding texture rather than brushing it out.

As per usual when I am creating I have no idea in mind … it is purely about play! I grab things that appeal and just go for it. I figure that it is only a coat of gesso away from being covered again if it looks awful!

Next I grabbed the Donna Downey signatures stencil … why? Well because it was out on the desk and I thought it would work inked over the Infusions background and book print.

So next I decided to add some paint… Mahogany and Chocolate Pudding Fresco finish paints. I added it with a brayer.

Then I added some Bora Bora paint too to bring a little contrast.

I also added a little more distress ink through a Tim Holtz stencil.

Time to start thinking of some feature images… I grabbed a couple of stencils … on Darcy one and one Clarity one. I mixed some Infusions into some texture paste and put that through the stencils to make some grasses.

I think they need a little more definition so grabbed distress inks and some gesso to tone down the background a little more. Oh and then added more Infusions…. don’t know where to stop with these! At this rate I may have to buy friend some more!

I love the earthy feel to the page now. Still not sure where to go from here so this is the point where I left it be for a few days.

Today I finished off.

Stamping … and a title. Then defining the grasses and leaves using Faber-Castell big brush pens and white paint pen.

Love this page and how it came together. Strangely just realised it also meets the Paperartsy Autumn leaves challenge with the fabulous Lin Brown leaves I stamped from one of her new sets.

So that’s it for tonight. Off to bed early (ish) as back to work tomorrow after all the disruption from the funeral etc. Life goes back to real life tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Happy crafting!
