More using up scraps

Another few cards made whilst tidying up… last week. This week the tidying up job is ten times worse… not sure I have the strength to face it yet! Ah well… Here are the cards.

UIUS take two

Yes i know its halloween but my post is all about Christmas… might post pics of the pumpkins tomorrow.

As promised another UIUS post all about the cards I made last week at the crop Helen organised.

These four were all using the bits and pieces I had to hand…

image

Some punched baubles and trees, all of which I ran through an embossing folder with a snowflake design to make them a bit different.  The tree cards I added the die cut Christmas greeting words to them that I had inked in Cherry Cobbler. I then added some glossy accents to finish them off.  This gives a lovely finish to the words.

For the bauble cards I stamped and inked a sentiment from a magazine gift which I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

Doing  UIUS set for a crop was such an easy project to work on without too much thought … meant I could chat away with friends but still be productive.

UIUS … what happened to that?

Just over a week ago I tidied the craft room.  In doing so I unearthed the box of cards I had prepped late last year for this year’s UIUS challenge that has been completely forgotten about.  Look at this stash that needs something doing with!

image

So I sorted them out into sets again as they had got rather messed up…

image

Then grabbed a set of six…

image

And started to finish these ones off. It turned out I had already got as far as sticking these ones down…

image

So I grabbed Christmas Collectibles stamp set and coordinating punch and stamped some baubles in Cherry Cobbler and punched them out.

Next I stamped some Holly from the Darcy Paperartsy set in Gumball Green and fussy cut it out.

This provided the topper for the cards. Then I stamped a sentiment from good Greetings and die cut out the little banner. Added some scraps of cherry cobbler seam binding to some and made sure there was some nice dimension going on with the toppers using pin flair glue gel.

Love how these turned out… good to get another UIUS under my belt after such a long time!

A nice little collection of cards. Now I challenge my readers to Use it Up today!

UIUS! Three little cuties!

Hi

Back to the Christmas card Use It Up challenge and have three cards that are all on their own!

2015/01/img_78182.jpg

I bought a stack of 8×8 Christmas paper at a craft show once and have hardly used it. The designs are a bit rustic really and not really very me anymore, but I still find them attractive. Some sheets were amongst the DSP I started sorting out for the second batch of Use It Up and so these three cards are pretty much on their own as they all have a handmade card blank to start with and their colour scheme is a little odd with the Strawberry Slush SU cardstock and Worn Lipstick distress ink combo!

Two are very similar in design as the picture paper sort of became the feature…

I just added the sentiment from the Happy Hour stamp set and some card candi to embellish.

The other I thought they needed the ornament toppers using the Christmas Collectible stamp set with coordinating punch…

Again the sentiment and card candi used as final touches… And the result is three cute cards, which are all on their own in design.

Advent calendar update

So I have an update on the advent calendar I shared with you that wasn’t quite going to plan.

Tonight I decided to go for the second option of hanging the pockets on some ribbons. I hunted down some mini clothes pegs, and used both the Pool Party & Island Indigo ribbons to create little washing lines for the pockets.

I then added some tinsel round the top of the bannister and think it looks quite pretty!

IMG_7576.JPG

Plus it all looks nice with the new decorations I got this year for the landing… Rustic, and handmade looking (even if they weren’t!)

So here is where the advent calendar now lives. Princess and I are very happy with this.

Advent calendar number two!

Yes a second advent calendar to share with you… This time the one for my princess.

I used the same 25 Days stamps, but this time the colour scheme matched the Winter frost DSP which I have plenty left over from last year, and I thought would make a Frozen themed advent calendar! I used plenty of die cut snowflakes, some Festive Flurry stamping and some ornaments and circles to mix it up a bit! I also decided against boxes this year. I’ve used the little milk carton boxes the last couple of years, but decided against hanging on the bannister this year. So I picked up these little bags and used them for the base. But how to display them?

Well this is the main thing to share here… I painted a canvas on which to stick the bags.

IMG_7564.JPG
This was the first layer of paint, and added some texture paste to add snow drifts and some hints of snow on the tree. I then added stamping with paint on the canvas and then pushed it back again in the sky with another layer of black. Then the star I painted silver, and added some silver dots to the tree.

IMG_7565.JPG

So this is the base to the calendar. Next I used some silver washi tape to add each of the little bags, in a tree sort of shape. The idea is that as the bag gets taken off the tree starts to emerge.

IMG_7566.JPG

Well this is the idea anyway. The practice is a little different. Unfortunately the washi tape is not doing a brilliant job of keeping the little bags in place! Instead we keep finding them on the floor in the hallway. So tomorrow I think a rethink may have to happen! I suspect that some little bulldog clips may be bought and the bags may end up on the bannister after all! Ah well, at least I get a nice whimsical canvas to look at for a month whilst the Christmas spirit is in the air!

Unfortunately due to manic times at work, our Christmas decorations have not quite made it up yet. I usually have them up on the 1st! They have got as far as in the house from the garage, but no energy tonight to start decorating. Hoping tomorrow I may find some energy after work and make a start!

Advent calendar number one!

Today I delivered the advent calendar I made for my friend. She is not a chocolate fan (yes I think she’s a nutter too!) so she misses out on advent calendars… So I make her one and fill it with little treats as her Christmas present.

Was therefore happy to see the 25 days stamp set in this years Stampin up catalogue. This makes it a little easier for me to make it up… I also slightly cheated and bought boxes this year too!

I used last years Festival of Prints paper stack as I thought it worked nicely with the brown boxes.

Loved doing this… Mostly loved filling it with treats for my friend! 🙂

Mixing dsps!

SU provide some fabulous DSP ranges, but then again so do other companies. When I saw the Papermania bundle last year in the sale, I had to buy it. Fortunately the colour matches very well with Cherry cobbler, so when I needed a bit of a contrast on this card I thought that the DSP stack of Festival of Prints worked well! So I put the two dsps together to create this!

I added the punched ornament out of the fabulously sparkly glimmer paper, and the sentiment from pennant parade to finish off… Perfect!

Cherry cobbler love for Christmas!

I adore using cherry cobbler when it comes to Christmas cards. The fact that this Papermania paper coordinates perfectly is a fabulous bonus too!

Here is a card I made recently using the combination!

20140720-225432-82472413.jpg

I added the fabulous gold angel hair fabric panel, and some gold washi tape to make the project bling! The embellishment was the Modern Ornament punch in both the DSP and the cardstock and then added the sentiment from Pennant Parade. The wiggly line of sentiment is from a stamp set I can’t remember the name of… I do love this stamped line of words though.

A quick Christmas card… Jingling those bells in July!

As some of you may know, I am currently off sick from work after a bit of a bad period dealing with my depression… So hence the huge amount of crafting I’ve been getting through… And a little bit of retail therapy I’ve had on some new bits and pieces… Like this fabulous Woodware Jingle Bells stamp. I have the matching Happy Birthday stamp, so when I saw this for Christmas cards I knew I had to get it! It will make some fab zentangled cards, but this time for the first inking I went for paper piecing!

20140706-225430-82470957.jpg

I added the baubles from the Christmas Collectibles stamp set, punched out, and stamped in Pistachio Pudding & Coastal Cabana which worked with the papers, some added white pen details and some bling (obligatory) to finish off!

Am hoping to be back at work some point soon as the meds are starting to give me some more stability… This is good news, but there is always a bad side … expect less crafting as a result! Ah well… Better mental health is definitely a plus!!!

Happy crafting!
