Alpaca Pals, Badass Chick

UK stampers forum postcard swap

Last month for the Uk stampers forum I made this postcard.I really wanted to use the Tracey Day Alpaca Pals stamps again but this time used all the elements type stamps, the sentiments and the hearts rather than the cute animals.

As my focal image I chose a Badass artchick stamp instead which I stamped and embossed on bookprint and added a little watercoloured ink.

The background was a blend of Lucky Clover and Cracked Pistachio distress ink and the stamping was a mix of different archival and distress inks.

Super happy with this.Happy crafting!

DT: Back to Basics and Beyond: salt technique

Howdy readers…

This week we have a technique based challenge over at Back to Basics and Beyond … salt technique.

I haven’t used salt with my watercolours as a background very often so it was fun to experiment and ended up with three panels…

I cut them down and used each in a different way. One I used an indigo Blu stamp set and heat embossed the fish and the sentiment.

I then added a little more colour onto the fish using distress oxide and my waterbrush.

Then I added layers under the panel in contrasting colours including the ribbon and the pearls.

Now the second card I kept quite simple with a silhouette stamp and added gold edging and some patterned paper and then sequins to finish.

Then the final one I used as a piece of actual patterned paper.

I added the stamped image and some other layers of patterned paper. I added the kraft tag to balance the kraft in the coffee cup colouring.

Love all three of these cards… And love being reminded of what a lovely effect the addition of salt is to the watercolour background.

Can’t wait to see how everyone else used the salt technique in their creations! Here is the blog.

Frida ATC swap

Over at artful ATCs there is a Frida Kahlo swap which I’ve joined in with.

These are the two I made.

The first one uses stamps from Badass artchick stamps and the second I did my own version of a Kahlo portrait.

Both of them were backgrounds with fresco finish paints and the one on the left I stamped and embossed the leaves with distress oxide and to add colour to the portrait and the stamped image I added both fresco finish paints and oxides.

Love how they both came out… even if my sketchy portrait isn’t brilliant I think she is still recognisable.

Music to my ears ATCs

Thought I had left music themed art behind after last month’s coin swap but the theme for this month’s atc swap at UK stampers forum is “Music to my ears” so out came the music images again.

But I kept with the theme I had used for the other swap items this month with both the colour scheme and the use of Badass artchick stamps.

I did however have to use some Creative Stamping magazine stamps for the focal image and the sentiment and the Sheet Music stamp for the background.

I also kept to the idea of using the shrink plastic for the sentiment. It’s such a cool substrate to use and be able to fit larger sentiments onto these smaller pieces of artwork.

I created backgrounds with the oxides and water to create some fun backgrounds. Sheet music was then stamped using the faded jeans ink. Then the pieces of glossy cardstock with the oxides on for the topper. I sewed these pieces into place to add texture and heat embossed the focal image on.

And this rounds up all the September swaps for UK stampers forum… And they look so fun as a collection…

Play Inchies

Hello!

Another day… another swap project to share. This time inchies.

I kept these simple… distress crayons in the background with a little wiped away through a stencil … very subtle.

The used a stamp from Badass artchick stanps to stamp the play and scribble circle. Then some dots of sparks paint and enamel accents to add texture.

And here they are in natural light

Simple but cute inchies!

More coins …

So after blogging about the coins I made last night I had a realisation … the swap was to send the three coins to the same person … And I had made three the same (very very very similar!) So I needed to make a few more so that the recipient had a set of similar but not the same coins!

So I made three more … because yes I didn’t think that I only needed 2 and 1 original! Doh! (Little note to explain I’m not feeling 100% at the moment and hence the complete lack of brains!).

I kept to the same idea and colours and to the same stamp company although I did switch sets of stamps… but all were the Badass artchick ones! And I kept to the faces as the images.

I realised whilst making them I would only need two so I reserved the other for another project I will share on another day.

So the good news from this blog post … I realised before it was too late and could correct my mistake… I have two coins for trading which aren’t already destined for a partner … So if you fancy a trade let me know… the third coin worked perfectly for the other project I have coming up… And I can enter thePaperartsy blog challenge again!

So even massive brain fog issues can result in good news! Ha ha ha!

More face artist trading coin swaps

I got busy in the crafy room last night… this time I made these for the UK stampers forum swap but kept with the Lets face it theme for the group I organise…

I decided to create a really textural and organic background so after adding distress oxides in picked raspberry and shaded lilac i added splatters and streaks of distress resist and then added two different embossing powders … one of which is the baked texture ones by Seth Apter which creates a really cool texture.

Then I stamped and coloured the Badass artchick girl image using the same distress oxides and some sparks paint. I fussy cut her out and then glued her to the coin.

I kept with the same idea as last time of using shrink plastic to create the sentiment which meant I could stamp a sentiment that would ordinarily be too big for a coin … this time I used the clear plastic.

Love how these came out and how different they are to the other coins I made last week even though they have the same theme.

So these are for a swap but also entering them into the current Paperartsy challengewhich is AT Coins… And I was really honoured that some of my coins were chosen as inspiration on the blog post. (Feeling special!). I’ve been enjoying all the DT posts so far… especially love Helen Chilton’s project with all the Lynne Perella images. So cool… And perfect inspiration for the Lets face it theme!

Three crowned queens

I’ve made three ATCs for the UK stampers forum swap where the theme is crowns of pointy hats… so i chose this image from Badass artchick stanps and added the crowns from some patterned paper.

I added the image to scraps of either gelli prints, wipe off or brayered backgrounds and cut them down to size for ATCs.

I added some colour using watercolour pencils and some water to add some definition.

I added more stamping using the Badass artchick stamps and then the titles using letter stamps.

Go Fish swap!

I’ve joined in a swap with a Facebook group called Mini Marvels where the theme is go fish! So I decided to do something with a 6×4 box canvas …

I started with some layers of paint in blues and turquoise and then added some texture paste through a stencil and let it dry… Then I added some lime paint splashes too.

Then I worked on the feature images and finished off the canvas without in progress pics.

I chose to add a laser cut wood veneer shape from an Artful Days Goodie box and added layers of Art Alchemy Sparks paint. I then added some patterned chiffon that had been in a goodie box too as a bag. I thought it looked quite sea themed.

I then added some stamping onto some bookprint using the Badass art stamps and colouring them with Distress Oxides. I then added some sparks paint onto the seaweed. The fish I then added a layer of versamark and then clear embossed powder which made it all shiny. Then I added some spots of white paint pen.

The title for the canvas is also a Badass artchick stamp. I cut it out and added some shading with Inktense pencils.

I then added some glossy accents to the sentiment strips and added some drops to the artwork as clear drops.

Finished off with some splashes of white gesso and some archival ink to the edges.

Happy crafting!
