Beautiful Birthday, Brushos, Swallowtail, Use them or Lose them

Use them or lose them #4 set 2

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!

This week I have been playing with the fabulous Swallowtail stamp.  I decided for these three cards to use Brushos to create some cool splodgy backgrounds…

All three very different.  Then all I needed to do was add the Swallowtail and a sentiment.

For each of them I edged the piece with a black pen, added it to a piece of scrap from the organised scrap box (I am defintely making use of this box this year) and added some card candi embellishments.

Love these.  Super simple to do and super effective arty cards!  This Swallowtail stamp is going nowhere! That is for definite!

Happy crafting!

Awesomely artistic, Beautiful Birthday

New rubber… must make a card

Now this is just a travesty… I have had the Awesomely artistic stamp set from SU for a few weeks and hadn’t even applied ink once…. time to put that right!
I started with inking a panel of cardstock… Worn Lipstick and Dusty Concord, making sure I did a smooth job of blending. Then sprinkled some water, let it react and blotted the ink away.

Then I stamped the dragon fly, flowers and sentiment all using the Dusty Concord.  I then added a little more ink to the flowers using a water brush.

Next I added it to a card blank… Done and dusted!  Want to see?  Go on then!

Simple but pretty awesome?

Beautiful Birthday, Masks/Stencils

Keeping it simple… Beautiful flower

This card I am sharing today was so so simple to create, but I think a truly beautiful finish… One word…  Clarity!

I love the simplicity of using ink and the clarity stencil brushes with one clever stencil to create this card.

I used three distress inks (Wild Honey, Worn Lipstick, Fired Brick) to create this gorgeous tonal finish.  I know I could get better at adding depth in the right places, but for first use of the stencil I am bowled over with the results.  Added the mount of white and black, the sentiment and four gems to ‘anchor’ the artwork.  Jobs a good ‘un!  Card made in under ten minutes… And a great card at that!

Thanks Barbara and the team at Clarity for making my life easy!

Happy crafting!

Beautiful Birthday, Dictionary, Swallowtail

Colour my Monday! Worn Lipstick!

Yes I am back with Colour my Monday! . I am unlikely to be here every Monday… But every time I decide to play with a particular colour, I will share it on a Monday with you. This week I have a card I made using predominantly Worn Lipstick. This is a nice vibrant colour from the Distress Ink range.

I must admit I love distress ink colours, but not so keen on them for stamping with. Much prefer the consistency of SU inks for that. Find they can be a bit oily. But they techniques you can do with distress inks are fun. In this case I did use the ink mainly for adding with a blending tool. I admit, this is not something I find easy to get good smooth results, but when you scrunch up the paper first before applying the ink it really doesn’t matter!

Top tip for adding distress ink and not getting the blend smooth… Go for a distressed grunge look so it won’t matter!

To this I added the dictionary stamp to add some text to the background. Stamping it in the same ink used for the background added a lovely tonal finish as the text blended into the places where the ink was applied more heavily.

Next up, the focal feature… Swallowtail. This is still one of my favourite stamps. This time I heat embossed using some coloured embossing powder. This was again in keeping with the main colour I had chosen, but is darker and the finish of the heat embossing I always find special.

I decided the sentiment needed to be darker than the background and so chose Night of Navy ink to match the cardstock I chose to mount it on. Then some little strips of floral washi tape, a doily lightly brushed with the Worn Lipstick ink, and some gems… All done. A pretty card for my friend.

Beautiful Birthday, Gorgeous Grunge, Sunflower

Happy birthday Mo!

Recently a lovely lady has joined our gang of crafting friends… Mo… And she has fit in wonderfully into the group. It was her birthday last week so I made her this quick card using the resist technique and plenty of ink.

I love the way the embossed flower shines out from the coloured background, and the yellows are a little brighter in real life than they are on the photo. I used the Sunflower stamp for the focal point, Beautiful birthday for the sentiment and Gorgeous Grunge in the background stamping.

Best wishes Mo!

Beautiful Birthday, Gorgeous Grunge, Swallowtail

Resisting the Swallowtail

I struggle to resist using this stamp… It really is one of my favorites! For this card I used a technique I love with this stamp … Resist inking!

I start by cutting the Whisper White cardstock to the size I want and then stamping the Swallowtail using Versamark ink. Then I heat emboss it with clear embossing powder. This creates the area that will remain white as it resists the ink being applied.

I used the following colours for the butterfly… Smoky Slate, Night of Navy, Melon Mambo, Perfect Plum… With added black and grey for the rest of the panel. Then I used some tissue to buff up the embossed area to remove the ink residue sitting on the top of the embossing.

Next I used Gorgeous Grunge stamps to break up the background a little. Then added the sentiment using the swirly and lovely Beautiful Birthday stamp.

I had so much fun doing this technique I made another card using the same technique but a different stamp and colour scheme… But will share that another time as that’s for someone else’s birthday! This one was for Sherayne! Hope you liked it hon!

Beautiful Birthday, Paperartsy, Eclectica -Darcy, Spectrum noir pencils

Playing with Darcy stamps!

I realised the other day whilst sorting out some of the mess of the craft room that I hadn’t used one of the gorgeous stamps that Darcy designed for Paperartsy so decided to stamp it out and colour it in. As a result I made this very simple card.

I used my Spectrum Noir pencils to colour in the stamped image… Very very easy to achieve good results with these pencils so I am pleased I invested in some. I mainly use them in my journalling if I am honest, but love colouring in images like this too.

I finished the card by stamping the Beautiful Birthday sentiment in Blackberry Bliss with a mat of the same colour cardstock underneath the stamped image.
