Two sheet wonder

Firstly I have to start with a grumble. Depression sucks. People (myself included before I suffered from it) think it is sadness or unhappiness. It really isn’t that. It’s more that for me it is numbness, or emptiness, combined with despair and isolation. I can be surrounded by people who love me and I love back but feel so alone. It really is horrible. Then the anxiety kicks in and it’s like everything is there at once and you just want quiet in your head but you can’t find it. Sorry to put this in the blog but I think if this helps one person understand another’s troubles or helps another person to identify this in themselves and get help then it’s worth it!

I’ve been back to the doctors this morning. We’ve decided on an increase in medication to go alongside the other things I am trying and I need to increase my exercise (from almost nothing to something routine). I have managed a small walk to and from the shop but after only 5 hours sleep I am now shattered and heading back to bed. Not sure I will get round to any crafting so glad I have a project I can blog about already completed…

Yes as part of the yet of Use them or lose them I have another one sheet wonder (using two sheets of dsp).

I started with some sketches from Freshly Made sketches …  number 1 to 18 to be precise and after roughly cutting cardstock and paper to size I then started teaming up brads as embellishments, black paper as the consistent matting and then card blanks… three different kinds in total.

image

This is then how I left them… waiting for the right opportunity to add feature stamps and sentiments.

A few weeks later I grabbed some coordinating cardstock scraps and black paper and the sentiment dies…
image
And had a big old die cutting session. Didn’t end up doing the button dies for this project.

Next I took all the smaller cards and started assembling them with the die cut sentiment and in some cases a stamped image (or three!). Some I had added paper flowers to already so they didn’t need the stamped images and because of the jazzy backgrounds I didn’t want to overdo it!

These I will share today… the others tomorrow!

Love how these all turned out… and how different they are because of the jazzy paper I probably wouldn’t have used for this type of project normally.

Pop back tomorrow to see how I finished the other cards from this two sheet wonder!

Use them or lose them #6 set 2

Hello

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!

This week I have been playing with Happy Thing stamps… and not getting blown away if I am honest.  Don’t get me wrong, I like the results and the stamps but just don’t see these being go to stamps at all.  Today I have the lemon cards I made…

Bright and zingy papers but not a whole lot of excitement generated for me.

Did some envelope stamping too…

Nope these are going to have to go into the Lose Them pile.  What a shame!

Another one for the Craftyhazelnuts patterned paper challenge too!

Happy Thing, Use them or Lose them

Use them or lose them #6

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!

This week the stamp set that took my fancy to play with was A Happy Thing which was a saleabration set from last year. I think I have only used it two or three times so far as although I love the art work of the stamps I don’t often want to use it.

So first of all I tried with the Bird stamp.

I grabbed some pieces of paper and cardstock from the desk (left over from a pocket page I finished a couple of weeks ago and not yet tidied up) and some embellishment bits and pieces and made the above cards. I coloured the Bird using inks and a water brush to keep the image soft.

I added the Bird to the envelope too.

So what do you think?

Again these are lovely stamps but not sure I am that drawn to them. Maybe when I try with the lemon from the set I may feel differently?

Prep for tonight’s paint without a paintbrush class

Two different samples were made for tonight’s class, all of which without a paintbrush in sight.

The first… A bright and zingy page using stamps from the saleabration set Happy Thing and Dictionary in the background.

The second a more tonal colour scheme of pinks and purples and a feature flower taking over.  I ended up cutting this piece down to fit the big flowers in properly as wanted them as embellishments!

Love them both.  Wonder what others will come up with tonight… Will they cope with paint and no brushes?

Colour my Monday! Peeled paint!

Another week where I remembered to do a Colour my Monday post!  This week the colour mainly in use was Peeled Paint. Normally this is a bit of a darker colour when I blend or stamp it, but with the Clarity Brushes I got a softer colour from it.

I started with a little bit of shabby shutters for the first application of tink through the stencil and then added the Peeled Paint, building more colour towards the bottom of the image.  You may note that i was only using part of the stencil too as wanted some white space towards the left of the panel.  I love the effect of using stencils with the clarity brushes…. So simple, but effective!

Then I used the Happy Thing bird stamp from this years saleabration.  I added colour using ink and water brush for a soft effect, and then fussy cut out.  Then the sentiment from Butterfly Basics

I mounted it on to some scrap cardstock, added the hand drawn wiggly border and dusted it all with the same green stencil brush to add a little bit of colour at the edge.  This was then mounted onto the card blank.

Love the simplicity of this, and loving these stencils and brushes so much.

WOYWW! Art journalling! My own writing… With Fairefoxes

This week’s WOYWW is missing the very important part … one might say pivotal… the picture of my desk! This is because I left this morning for work without taking the picture I meant to of my crafting space! Doh! Last night I had been crafting – finishing the journal page – I remembered the picture of that last night – just forgot the actual desk! Doh! If I get a chance later I will rectify this and take a pic and then update this blog post!

Anyways – I am doing this on my lunch at work – trying not to go out at lunch and spend money so thought a bit of blog hopping would be a good distraction… so will be shortly popping to Julia’s blog to go nosey round the other crafty spaces people are sharing – it’s fun to be nosey – and in most cases be inspired!

So what do I have to share… that’s right my journal page!

This page for Rae’s challenge is a few weeks out of sync…. Use my own writing!

I hate my writing and so have got a book to inspire me but not had a chance to use it yet… So this is without that much needed inspiration…

I used a Julie Nutting stamp which I paper pieced on top of a paint background using bubble wrap to stamp and credit card to create the lines. Also in the background is a crown I was sketching, a foreign stamp that fell out of the ephemera box so I stuck down and then a heart I stamped on some random painted cardstock and added the stamped words from the Happy Thing stamp set.

Then I added some doodling and outlining to the girl and then the words using a Calligraphy pen.

Looking forward to using the book as soon as I get there… Will have to post a review when I have had a chance to read it properly.

Happy crafting!
