Happy anniversary

Yesterday my hubby and I celebrated 9 years of marriage. Here is the card I made for him.  I decided to use some of the Seth Apter stencils and make a painted mixed media card.

I also decided to decorate the envelope with the paints and stencils too.  This is stage 1 of the creation…

Next…. making marks time…. so funnily enough this also fits the Paperartsy blog theme for the moment. Out came the white pen and a sparkly blue gel pen for outlining and doodling.

Love this so much…. I am so in the Seth Apter zone! You should check out the photos from the event … the blog post is on the Paperartsy blog.

To finish off I just added a simple sentiment using Emma Godfrey stamps from Paperartsy.

Love how this came out… masculine but still lovey dovey… perfect for my gorgeous hubby.

Happy crafting!

Card in a box for baby Josslyn

One of my friends at work has recently had a gorgeous baby girl, Josslyn.  She also admired the card in a box I made for my cousins little boy.  So I thought as a little treat for her first trip into work with baby Josslyn (that I unfortunately had to miss as had meetings out of the building that day) I would make a card for her to open!

Here is the starting point…

Using Strawberry slush, Crisp Canteloupe and Bermuda Bay inks I stamped using the embossing folders the backgrounds in a technique I will be teaching at the next art journalling session.  Creates such a cool effect.  These were then added to the constructed box.

Next I stamped and cut out lots of cute embellishments.  Heart based things from Language of love, little bunting banners from Henry Says, and the animals from a retired set called Animal Stories.  I kept to the same colour scheme for everything, strawberry slush, crisp Canteloupe, lost lagoon, Bermuda bay.  I didn’t want it to be pastels as such, but more bright pastels as they seem more Mish and Jody’s style!

Next I started decorating the box… Here are the sides…

I added sentiments from a couple of different sets I have got.

Then the front from slightly different angles…

Really pleased with how this came out.  Cute but funky at the same time!

Fingers crossed next time Josslyn comes to visit work I will be there to say hello in person and dole out many cuddles!

Happy crafting!

Second golden wedding anniversary card

Hello dear readers

You may recall that a few weeks ago I posted about a golden wedding anniversary card I made as a commission for my parents. Well I made two as they have two couples to give them to in the coming months.

This one I decided on a blue theme for it, the other a red, this way they were both different… And the designs I chose were indeed very different!

2015/01/img_7896.jpg

I started with a square of whisper white and decorated it with stamping… Used Hello doily, Bliss, Language of Love, Affection Collection And Everything Eleanor stamps, in all different shades of blues and a bit of Smoky Slate thrown in too! I then cut a small strip out of the square so that it was two panels and stuck them to the Lost Lagoon cardstock. Next some glimmer paper and another mount of white and one in Island Indigo.

I decided to add a doily and I wrapped round the layered panels one of the lovely pleated ribbons… So decadent. This was then affixed to the card blank.

Next I created the topper out of die cut circles, one of which I edged with gold one, and onto this I stamped the sentiment. Not 100% happy with the sentiment… Who would have thought with all the stamps I have I have only one anniversary stamp … And I am not that keen on that!

Overall though, I love this card. Nice a classy and elegant with the right amount of bling for a golden wedding.

Playing with Paperclay

About 2 years ago I went with some of my favourite people to Art from the Heart to do an Art Doll class with Kate Crane. I had no idea what I was doing but completely fell in love with the process and end result of my fabulous Raggity Alice who is currently on display in our hallway so I see her everyday! At the time I of course bought a packet of paperclay full of intentions of making more art dolls and maybe a range of snowmen for Christmas and decorations and and and …

Well you can imagine if you know me in person, or have read my blog for a while I am not a good finisher!

And of course the paperclay has sat there in my stash not being used for the entire time … But on 12th May that changed! I opened the packet and I used it all … Yes all of it in one go! Mainly because I couldn’t be bothered to get some cling film, and also because I knew I would never get round to using it before it hardened if I didn’t do it all in one go!

So what did I do? Well I did create the pieces for another doll similar to Raggity Alice. I also created some pendant/fob/decorations in simple shapes with stamped impressions. I also used a cake decorating mold I had bought in the sale with some feathers… These are so cute and delicate. Love how they worked. So here they all are drying nicely!

The first things I started to do something with were the pieces for the rabbit doll … Only 12 days later! (24th May). Not bad for me. First a coat of shell pink acrylic, then some grey (don’t know why but fancied a grey bunny)! At this point I had not decided what to do with the legs, so not painted at all at this point. But I did paint a lovely red colour onto the heart.

I gave the rabbit another coat of paint later that day and then decided on stripey legs just like Raggity Alice. But decided on blues for these legs instead.

Next I decided to give the rabbit a glaze of crackle glaze. At this point I had only done one side of the body and also stuck the heart in place with glossy accents.

20140524-210711-76031789.jpg

The next day, a coat of crackle glaze to the back and the legs done, and whilst this dried, took a scrap of fabric to make the dress. This is the simple dress ready to have the drawstring neck done when the glaze is dry.

Meanwhile… Other pieces of the paperclay got some paint layered on…

And then normal service resumed and the pieces were not touched at all. And remain so to this day. I live in hope I might actually finish them off one day, or use them for something… But as I’ve held onto this post for months in hope I would finish them, it’s time to post it before the year is out with the reaffirmation that I am officially not a finisher!

Playing with gelato

Nope I haven’t started playing with my ice cream… That would just be plain wrong… Ice cream for eating! However the fabulous Faber Castell Gelatos are for playing with!

I say fabulous now… But in reality I have had these in my crafty stash for two whole years and had no idea what to do with them! So I think I may have tried something maybe once or twice and been very unimpressed and shoved them back in a box.

Last night that changed! It was spurred on by me spotting them at Crab apple Crafts which I visited with my friend Mara. I explained I had some and didn’t know what to do with them. So last night when Ancestry.co.uk kept freezing, I decided to go hunt on UTube for some advice! And wow I found quite a bit. The Donna Downey series of short videos showed them being used in a whole host of different ways, and then another person also showed them. My first issue however was that they all seemed to have the colour family pack, whereas I had bought a mix and match set … The 50’s diner pack on the right …

20140708-102053-37253765.jpg

As a result of just choosing one pack of colours I was drawn to, I had limited the blending capabilities for using them, but I figured I could do something with the orange, yellow and grey/brown colour even if I couldn’t use the aqua.

Well many hours passed of me watching UTube videos on various techniques with various products… And then of course I couldn’t sleep. So after trying for over an hour, I gave up, got myself a big drink of milk, and headed into the craft room to give the Gelatos a go!

I had already got a 15x15cm piece of Acrylic paper cut on the desk, so I decided to start with this. I drew a heart shape in pencil and blended the yellow and orange together for the heart, first using the finger to do some rough blending, and then adding water. I then outlined it with the grey with a reasonable amount of water. Next I took one of the new stencils I had bought and pushed some of the gelato watered down through that. This created the grey stems up the side. Then I tried stamping with Gelatos… Hearts from Language of Love all down one side in Orange. Then using the grey I stamped a partial stamp image of the Kaisercraft number background I bought yesterday. Then I tried another technique… Using another mask bought yesterday, I rubbed some of the colour away using a baby wipe to create two circles on the left of the heart, and the stain on the right hand side. I was very impressed with this technique, and the result it gave so easily.

I then took some little alpha stamps and created the wording with Stayzon on paper which I modpdged to the canvas. Then doodled a little bit to both frame it and outline the heart and words.

I then mounted it on some gold card, and placed it on the hubby’s bedside cabinet for him to wake up to!

20140708-103022-37822950.jpg

Not bad for a 3am make! And so quick to do too! Really couldn’t believe how easy it was to create this, especially given I had no plan at the start and had always struggled to use them before! I suspect they will be used again in the near future and may even have to invest in some other colours to see what else I can create!

Now despite the fact I have been in bed since 4am I still haven’t slept. My body is telling me to sleep but my head is buzzing with arting ideas. Damn you UTube! And why the hell have I only just realised what a fab resource it actually is! But for now I really should sleep!

Finishing off a project from last months scrap booking class!

Yes I am finally finishing off the scrapbook pages I started last month at Helen’s class.

This was Helen’s sample…

20140701-224653-82013184.jpg

And as I wanted to use pics that wouldn’t really work with the grungy background I did mine slightly differently!

20140701-224750-82070205.jpg

I used the fab dies from the new Project Life SU stuff you can order from Helen as from today to cut the panels from the Soho Subway paper. Used Gorgeous Grunge to do a border for the page in Island Indigo and used some elements from a Project Life stamp set and something else (can’t remember what it was called now) to create little elements for around the page. I also used Language of Love and the fabulous Morning Post alpha along with the other alpha set (again name escapes me!) and the little banner punch for the bunting!

A very different feel from Helen’s original but I love this sketch and the use of project life stuff to make a non-project life layout! Guess what is on my wish list!

Language of Love, WOYWW

WOYWW … Quick make from my new desk!

I am all about my new crafting space and well and truly in love with having a space just for crafting for the first time! I’ve not completely sorted the room out … But really loving grabbing time in the room to try out the space for playing!

So here in true WOYWW fashion is my new crafting space!

20140226-195649.jpg

20140226-195655.jpg

The desk to the left is my main desk … Although I do rather spill over onto the designated computer desk when actually crafting!
I also have pretty much all the storage to use too! And boy do I need it! Not sure exactly where I am going to put all the bits and pieces that haven’t made it onto a shelf as yet though!

So what was my quick make today …

20140226-200556.jpg

A piece of dsp left from a scrap page I am half way through, a little stamped banner from Language of Love, a bit of bakers twine and some candy dots! Jobs a good’un!

Right time to nosey at other work desks through WOYWW!

Happy crafting!
