Random Paperartsy cards

I am part of a birthday card group where Paperartsy cards get sent to people for their birthday. I made these to go in the stash for the year.

image

image

For both of them I used Clare Lloyd stamps and distress inks.  I also decorated the envelopes.

image

I also made a flower card using Ellen Vargo and Darcy stamps with a JOFY sentiment.

image

And again decorated the envelope.

To this card I also added some dots of foiling.  Still not got good results for the foiling heatwave pen except dots and lines but still love the shiny luxurious finish!

Happy crafting!

New Patwits circle (square) journal

I loved the last circle journal with my fellow Paperartsy fans (Patwits) so much I immediately wanted to be involved for the second round… and we inspired others to join in so we are now 12 in number! Whoop!

We each got to choose a shape of journal each and I chose Square as I often create square shaped art.  So I created my journal from Mixed Media cardstock for the pages and some recycled board from the stash.  I punched holes and added the book rings for easy binding.

image

image

Now for the fun part… Starting the art!

image

So from grey board to colour!  Gesso first then Haystack and some orange and red paints.  I started to build colours and layers and textures.

image

Now some stencilling. I decided to embrace circles in contrast to the square shape.   I grabbed all stencils with circle themes and just started adding colour and contrast.

Then I grabbed the circles from the Kim Dellow stamp set and stamped the little circles in grey archival and the large circles in white gesso.

image

Then I took a large circle mask and the dotty wave stencil and through that I added the texture gloss paste from Ranger.  This is new for me so it was a real experiment. Time to set it aside to dry.  It took a few hours.

image

Here is a close up of the gorgeous texture …
image

Decided to emphasise the circle more with some Chocolate Pudding paint.
image

I kept the paint light and wiped it away a little to ensure there was some transparency still through to the under layers. Although the texture paste has some resist, the freco paints pretty much adhere to everything so you need to be careful to not cover everything! I decided it needed more pattern and more paint…. forgot photos for the next 30 mins play! Oops!
image
So there are Darcy stamps (again circle themed) and more red and brown paints added. I also added some copper paint to give it a shine too, unfortunately it doesn’t show on this picture.

I wanted a raised part to the cover as the book rings mean that it won’t interfere with what other people want to do as they can remove the pages and work on them outside the journal confines. So grabbed some corrugated card and tore it into a roundish shape and pulled some of the cover off to expose the texture. Then gave it a coat of gesso.
image
Once it was dry I added colour and stamping so I could build up the layers.
image

I used a few Ellen Vargo stamps… yes circle themed ones to add the interest. I also started adding some copper paint and then later I also added some treasure gold.

On separate cardstock I stamped and painted one of Darcy’s hearts and cut it out. I adhered this on the corrugated card and added a layer of glossy accents to it.
image
It was still wet and quite milky in this picture.

Next I needed a title for my journal so stamped it out onto some Cheesecake painted paper using alpha stamps.

image
I outlined these little strips once I stuck them down onto the journal. You can see I had also adhered the corrugated card too but was still waiting for the glossy accents to finish drying.

Whilst waiting I wanted some more embellishments so had a hunt through the stash and found some wooden hearts. I wanted to change their colour though and decided the Pebeo Fantasy Moon paints would work well….
image
These also take a while to dry so I left the journal overnight to dry before carrying on.

image
This is how it looked all stuck together the next day. I was happy with it like this…
image

image

… Now all I needed to do was the inside of the cover so that I could write my ‘instructions’ to my fellow journallers. I had started the inside at the same time as the front so it was the same base colours, but I wanted it to look different.
image

image

I started by adding some white gesso through a stencil.
image
Then stamped the JOFY flowers also in the gesso.
image
I used the Spectrum Noir pencils to add some colour. Also stamped and coloured the little JOFY circles.

image
Next to add the ‘rules’ for the journal by stamping with alphas onto white card and adding them with matt medium.
image
So this was the inside cover done and dusted along with the front cover. I also made my page and tag but will share that another day.

Happy travels dear journal.

Trying out the block out method… updated!

A couple of nights ago in the midst of the new Paperartsy releases Leandra (the Paperartsy head honcho) did a periscope (a live video broadcast) where she showed how to do the block out method… I must admit as much as I love the effects of what people have done using this in journal spreads I have never tried it myself… but watching Leandra do it made me brave to try it on a tag!

Here is my process…

image

Pink and purple paint blended onto tag.

image

Also added some pale blue.

image

Stencilling with paint and script stamping.

image

More stamping.  Now to add the main feature … I chose to make a flower from Darcy stamps…

image

First the stem and some leaves… then I wanted a heart based flower…  but forgot to take a picture at this stage … so instead the next picture is once I had blocked out the background…

image

So this is where I got to… and I learnt…
1. deco art crafters acrylic are NOT opaque.  I need more fresco finish paints.
2. Using more of a contrast for the blocking out would work better for the flower to pop.
3. My painting isn’t very neat so I need to be more careful to not go over the lines of the image as much.
4. Being brave and trying new things is fun.

So this is another entry for the Paperartsy challenge which to be honest is going to play second fiddle at the moment on the blog due to all the new fab stamps, stencils and paints they are releasing this week. But remember it is still all about hearts.

Happy crafting!

PATWITS circle journal… Clare’s journal

Hi lovely blog readers

Today I get to share with you the journal spread I did for Claire in her circle journal.  I was totally inspired by the delicate cover she had done for her journal and wanted to keep some of that delicacy in mine.  This is not something I usually achieve so this was an interesting project for me. This is Claire’s gorgeous cover…
image

I started by adhering some different papers and ephemera and fabric into the journal to provide a textured surface.  I also added grunge paste through stencils and then added a layer of gesso over the top to knock back the colour.

image

I love how the edge in the middle has picked up everyone’s colours from the previous pages though.

Next I added brushos randomly around the page in Gamboge and Scarlet.

image

They are so vibrant when wet… but hang on what about the delicate look… well I knew that on top of gesso the colours fade and pastelise  (is that even a word) as they dry!  So this was, for once,  a deliberate choice!
I decided I wanted to try a face for Claire’s journal too… so as I am not the best at drawing I grabbed the Paperbabe templates and started sketching.   It was about now I realised that a highly textured surface is not the easiest to draw on.  I then used more brushos this time as a watercolour pigment to add some colour and shading.

image

I only used scarlet and light brown to get to this stage.  I wanted only the warm colours on the page (although there is still blue from the fabric I used).

Then I set to with stamping.  I used a Sepia Archival and a brown felt tip for adding definition to the girl and round the title.  I stamped the title on a piece of cardstock separately to be able to cut it up and put it on the page as separate words.

image

I used a selection of different Paperartsy stamps for the stamping… Ellen Vargo and Clare Lloyd mainly though.

I decided that the grunge paste needed defining a little more and some of the stamping needed pushing back a little.  So I used a baby wipe to add a little more gesso in places, and then used treasure gold Ruby on the texture paste areas.

image

My final touches were some drops of copper acrylic ink which adds a little bit of richness to the page alongside the treasure gold.

image

This is the final page in the natural light.  I love how this turned out.  So different from my usual style and so pretty.  Hope Claire likes what I created for her.

Happy crafting!
