Back to Black twinchies

So as per usual I made twinchies for the coin swap peeps… and kept to the same Back to Black theme. This first set of four was using black cardstock and the baked texture embossing powder in Deep Sea to add the dictionary stamping in the background and the butterfly embellishment. Also added the punched leaf from black cardstock and kept it plain as contrast. Then edged the pieces in black embossing powder to finish off.

Second set of four was another scrap piece of black cardstock and this time heat embossed with the handcarved stamp although didn’t ink it fully so it meant it was more of a loose stamping.Then I heat embossed the white splodges on top. Next I coated some cardstock with sparks paint and then heat embossed one of the Watercolour wings stamps before using a punch to punch out the butterfly.

I then used the Tap Tap Tap sentiment which I heat embossed in white and then finished the twinchies off with white gel pen doodles.Pictures don’t really show the sparkle and shine on these but they are fab in real life.Then another pair of twinchies…

Next a set of six…More embossing and this time one embossed background with white craft ink stamped and embossed which created cool effect on the leaves. Then punched and stamped butterflies on top.

Next up a set of eight. Again an embossed background this time using the world map stamp and then the simply sketched leaves using different powders.I found a butterfly in a magazine stamp set and embossed them onto the black card using white powder.Finally two using scraps of patterned paper, and embossed flower and embossed details on punched butterflies.Some fun twinchies … all back to black but also with butterflies thrown in for this month’s theme too!

Butterfly Artist Trading Coins

Yesterday I revealed the theme for the swap in my Artist Trading Coins UK swaps group over on Facebook… Butterflies.

I figured it would be an easy theme for people to join in with as there are so many butterfly themed crafting things around and not the hardest things to draw or paint either!

I decided to use a lot of supplies that were hanging around on my desk to make mine.I chose papers from Making Cards magazine kit that I had never got round to putting away for covering the coins and then added another layer of a partially die cut wall (Tim Holtz dies). Then I die cut book print using the leaf die from Petals and More. Then took a shiny leaf from the stash, copper thread and some little flower embellishments.

Then for the butterfly…. Butterfly basics little text butterfly which I white heat embossed on some bronze cardstock and stuck it down. I then stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set onto shrink plastic and heat it so it became a cute embellishment.Absolutely love these textural and layered coins with fun embellishments.

Hopefully the eventual recipients do too!

DT: Back to Basics and Beyond: pop up card in a box

Not created a pop up card in a box for a while… so it was nice to mix up the cardmaking and mixed media stuff I’ve been sharing with this 3d creation.

I started with a piece of cardstock and used a template I found for a smaller size pop up box that is 4×4 in size when folded.

Then I chose papers in nice bright colours to add to each panel.

Then added some decoration using Petals and More dies and the same papers. Next I heat embossed butterflies on the papers and cut them out and added these on to some acetate strips so they could float out of the box! And two of the little ones on the top and front panel.

Finally I added the sequins and a sentiment to finish off!

So so cute.

UK stampers forum tag swap

Hi there

Today I have the tag I made for the swap over at the UK stampers forum.

I used a gelli printed tag for the base which provided a lovely background full of colour and details.

Then I added patterned papers and punchinella and another gelli print. O to this I added the stamped and fussy cut butterfly and the sentiment. Love the different layers and textures for this tag.

Making Cards magazine … 5 cards one kit

Today I have 5 cards I made yesterday using the latest Making Cards magazine paper collection kit.

I filmed the process which you can watch here.

I love these papers and ran out if time making cards… I know I could have made many many more!

Love how all of these turned out. The colours are so lush and summery.

Will be back with more makes from this collection in the future I am sure.

Inchies … using up gelli prints

This month’s inchies I used up a random gelli print as the background and mounted it onto the mountboard and then cut it into the 1″ squares.

Next I stamped and embossed with the Seth Apter Patina Oxide embossing powder a text circle from Finnabair. I then decided to edge all of them with the same powder.

Then I needed a bright contrast for the focal and chose to punch the butterflies from paper and spray it with Distress stain in picked raspberry. Then I stamped using distress oxides on the top and this gave a variance in the colour and on some the text is visible (but not on all). I mounted them and added a gem to finish off.

Love these grungey and funky inchies.

Flowers postcard

The theme for this month at the Postcard art swap group was flowers in my garden… well I don’t really have many of those so I’ve used some creative licence and used the flower from Butterfly Basics to add the floral element to this postcard.

I added the Tim Holtz tissue wrap and then gesso to the panel and then lots of brushos using the Matt medium to make them less reactive. I stamped in archival and coloured using the Brushos again. Then I added some subtle texture and pattern stamping too.

Next I added the glitter paste through a stencil to create the chicken wire type fence. I mounted the artwork onto some pale kraft cardstock I had stamped with hardwood to give it a frame.

Last night’s crafty session

So I had lots of fun with my friends at last night’s crafty session. We each made a background…. 

Then we cut them up to a template and swapped pieces so that we would make 5 cards… two with the backgrounds we had made and the other three cards would be using one piece from the others. 

So my cards … well if I am honest I finished them after work tonight before I put everything away… but they were mostly done last night…

I loved being able to work with the panels others had made and love how different they all were. I must admit that as I had the luxury of a bit more time than just during the session I did add a few extra bits (the additional elements like the flowers and butterflies) but kept to the same available materials as at the session.

Background swap arty session

Tonight there are a few of my friends coming round for a crafting session.  Originally this was pre Christmas but it ended up being a date no-one could make…so instead it’s tonight for us to have some fun with Distress Oxides. 

I decided that we could all make some pretty papers and then make cards from them… but with a twist… once we’ve made the paper we cut it into pieces and then swap so we have some of each other’s papers. 

I did however need to make a couple of samples to see if we could design cards regardless of the style of the papers we made… with similar elements…. 

… so I first made a vintage themed background with Peeled Paint, Faded Jeans, Vintage Photo, Frayed Burlap and Walnut Stain. 

I used a selection of stamps… Timeless Textures, Affection Collection, Butterfly Basics, Sheet Music.

Next I made a bright and funky one… Picked Raspberry, Twisted Citron, Spiced Marmalade, Cracked Pistachio, broken china.  And stamped using stamps from Tap Tap Tap, Handcarved, Happy Celebrations, Butterfly Basics.

Then I cut them into panels… 

… And then started to put together cards based on the same sketches that I put together (whilst eating lunch at work I managed to get some ideas down on paper! 

I started with an inlay die cut using the swirly scribble thinlits die. This provides a lovely finish and needs very little to finish it off.  I just added a stitched framelit oval and a sentiment to each of them and changed the orientation of the cards.

Next I took the other larger panels and I die cut a frame effect using two rectangle dies.  I popped the frame up on foam pads and then added the diecut birds to the middle panel before sticking it back in place.  I added some wink of Stella to the bids and a die cut sentiment label and added twine to each of them … one the linen thread and the other the bakers twine. 

I decided to change the orientation for each of them again to show two possibilities for the card design.

Next up I wanted to use die cut sentiments.  As I was layering two panels of the cardstock I did add a little ink to the edges to give them more definition.  I felt one needed a white sentiment and the other a black.

So onto another layered layout.  I couldn’t resist using this dragonfly die cut for both of the cards.  I just adjusted the position of the bottom panel for each card and chose a different placement for the sentiment.  I die cut both dragonflies from white adding colour using my clarity brushes to keep it gentle.

And finally I gave both of the final cards a mount of black and on one I tore an edge and the other I left it straight.  Then I layered two flower die cuts that i had done in black and white and reversed the order to give them a different look.  I added lots of wink of Stella to the black top level on the bright card as it needed some shimmer.

I am really happy with how these came together as samples… wonder how the session will go and if we will manage to do something different? I’ve diecut loads of bits and pieces and so it will be interesting to see what people use!
