Stencil play inspired by Martin

Hello!

Todays card was actually inspired by Martin from a Christmas card he made … my result is very different but I think you can see where the inspiration came from.

Look at the colour on this!

I am so pleased with this one I have to admit. So I started with a square of white cardstock and inked it up using a rainbow of colours… the tip to this kind of inking is to keep adding more and going back and forth with the colours so they blend and a decent amount of ink is laid down.

Then I laid the stencil over the top (think this is a Claritystamps stencil) and went back over the colours again adding more yellow where the yellow is, green where the green is etc.

Then when the stencil is removed you get the stencil pattern darker than the background.

This does leave a fair amount of ink on the stencil … so I sprayed it and then ran it through the Big shot to adhere the ink … hey presto a second background created … put this aside for now but sure it will make a pretty card sometime soon!

Back to the actual card… Once I had trimmed it down a little I decided to make a mini shaker and to add a black and white butterfly as the main feature … to be honest I just wanted to enjoy the background! Lol!

I ended up watering down some black gesso and splattering and then die cutting and stacking lots of the black squares to make the shaker element. Then I added some of the die cut stars I had in a pot on my desk and added those both inside the shaker and added a few on the outside too.

I used the Butterfly Brilliance stamp and die to create the butterfly and then grabbed the Lawn Fawn stamps and dies for the sentiment.

I mounted the panel onto another piece of black then onto a 6×6 card blank.

Love how this came out … so vibrant and fun. Looking forward to creating with the bonus panel too!

Getting creative with golf themed dsp

I am really trying to use up dsp I own and keep playing with different challenges. I think this started as a #sheetloadofcards template but to be honest I started it over a month ago so can’t remember now.

Anyway the plan was to make some masculine cards using this golf themed dsp I had in the stash … bit it didn’t exactly go to plan when I realised I had exactly zero golf themed stuff to make it into a proper themed card… so I went a bit off piste!

I hunted through my bits and pieces box and found this printed topper so this did work with the sports theme. I also added the letters from an old Papermania kit which made them slightly more restricted and masculine.

But then I gave up … couldn’t find anything that would work with the golf theme!

Fortunately for three cards I could avoid the direct golf theme as the papers are double sided and I could use alternative sides where necessary … and so instead I gave up on masculine and added butterflies from the lovely Butterfly Brilliance set.

The next two I opted to cover up the golf themed paper instead …

A complete cheat … but all I could think of to do given I had made up the cards originally thinking I must have something in my stash that would work… only to find nothing except that one printed sports element.

Ah well.. a set of fun and pretty cards using golf themed papers done and dusted!

Happy birthday Michelle

A bit of a run on birthday cards this week… this time it was for my friend Michelle.

I decided to use the Butterfly Brilliance stamp which I don’t use nearly enough.

I used some Polished Pink cardstock and embossed the butterflies using white powder. I then added ink in Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo using the blending sponge to add some extra definition and an ombre look to the card stock. I tore one side and then mounted it onto the rose gold cardstock which I also tore down one edge.

I embossed the Happy from the Biggest Wish stamp set. Next I added some strips of green and yellow cardstock from the stash.

I added the birthday stamp from Artistically Inked to one and punched with the banner punch. I then used the same cardstock I die cut the little butterflies.

Inside I added a strip of the embossed cardstock I had cut off the front panel and punched it into a banner. I also added the remaining butterflies and stamped the sentiment from the retired Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set.

Love how this came together.

DT: Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes with Dies

Hello!

Firstly thank you for popping by to my blog. Just wanted to put that there as I know blog reading is not something that everyone does, so thank you.

Today I have another design team contribution for the Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes with Dies blog.

I created this tag with lots of different bits and pieces … let me talk you through it as I forgot to take process pics.

I started with stamping and die cutting the Brilliant Wings stamp. This is great as it stamps and cuts out 6 different butterflies in one go. I stamped them onto the Petal Pink cardstock and used a mix of different ink colours and the stamping platform so there was a gradient in the colours stamped.

I also die cut one of the filigree butterflies from the die sets and inked that using my blending tool.

Next I took 2 tags and cut out a panel of one of them as an aperture. I inked and stamped round that using the Very Versailles stamps. And splattered some shimmery watercolour paint too so there was some shine.

I then took 5 of the butterflies and laid them out around the aperture and stuck the aperture tag down. I then trimmed them back so that they were smaller than the tag but visible through the gap.

Next I took my piercing tool and guide and pierced the edge of the tag. Love the effect this creates.

Next I did a little more very versailles stamping on the bottom tag so that I would come through the vellum a little.

I cut a panel of vellum to sit behind the aperture and then sandwiched the two tags together.

Next I stamped the hello sentiment and the fancy frame from very versaille and fussy cut them out and inked the edges to match the tag. I added them to the frame and then affixed the layered butterfly to the top.

Finally I added the trim on the top. Voila! A layered tag with lots of interest.

I’m actually going to enter this into the UK stampers forum tag swap as not joined in yet this month so seems like a good way of doing my DT and joining in a swap!

DT: Craftyhazelnuts patterned paper challenge

Another month, another one sheet wonder for the Craftyhazelnuts patterned paper challenge.

I designed my own template to make 8 cards using one piece of 12×12.

I had a lot of fun using the Pierced Blooms and also added piercing to some of the cardstock panels too.

Used one of the butterflies from Butterfly Brilliance stamp set … and loved the jaunty angle.

Pulled out the Artistically Inked stamps too to create the background on some and the focal image/ cluster on others. I also used both the Biggest Wish stamp set and an old stamp set for the sentiments.

The panels that were 1 inch wide (plus one of the 1.5″ strips) I used on the inside of the cards to add some decoration there too.

I loved playing with these papers which I got in saleabration in 2020 and then different stamps to decorate.

Off to see how everyone else got on using their patterned paper this month!

Butterfly themed journal craftalong

I did a fun craftalong with some friends recently where we made butterfly themed handmade journals. I decided to use mine to document my Brave the Shave event and hair regrowth in 2019, alongside a little of my friends stories about breast cancer.

Here is how far I have got with decorating it and filling it so far. Still got many stories to tell but for now I am pleased with how much I have managed to do on this project.

I used the already sold out Butterfly Bijou dsp, alongside vintage papers, random papers, index cards, colouring book pages, washi, vellum, doilies … basically anything that was around whilst I was playing got thrown in the mix.

Some pages I have just added little collages to and not added documenting which I love to add interest, especially as this is a bittersweet story to document… both a celebration of success and loss for my two friends who have had to face breast cancer along with the story of my shave journey which I am so proud of what I achieved through a simple but brave act.

If anyone fancies seeing the hair disappear there is a speedy version on youtube. Enjoy!

Will share future projects in this journal as they happen… keep your eyes peeled!

Tag Thursday… more butterfly tags

Today is a little similar to last week in that I am sharing a butterfly themed tag (well three of them) … and they are very similar to last weeks in design but are actually the tags I made for three friends who joined me for an online craftalong last week….

Crumb Cake base, Butterfly Brilliance stamps, Butterfly Bijou dsp, Gorgeous Grunge stamping and washi tape… perfect fun and slightly grungy tags. Didn’t go full on Grunge as the idea is they can go in their journals and so may not fit with their style if I went too far to grungy in the design of these. Love them!

Really need to play with the stamps and dies more for this set. Unfortunately the dsp sold out so almost wishing I had hoarded it more!

Tag Thursday UK stampers forum tag swap

Today for Tag Thursday I have the tag I made for this months swap at UK stampers forum.

I used the lovely Butterfly Bouquet suite… and made my tag from a few layers of the Crumb Cake cardstock.

I was actually making a few things using these papers and stamps at the time so it seemed sensible to make this tag at the same time.

I used the stamp on the background along with Vintage photo distress ink. Then added some splatters using the Gorgeous Grunge stamps and Calypso Coral ink. Next a little bit of stencilling using an old Tim Holtz stencil.

Them I added the strips of the paper and the bookprint and stitched it with my sewing machine… to be honest my sewing machine started having a little hissy fit making this tag so it’s a good job I was going for the grungey look!

I then added the washi tape and the stamped and die cut butterfly, before sewing round the edge, and inking the edges.

I then adhered it to another piece of Crumb Cake that I cut to size and also inked.

Finally a bit of ribbon from the scraps basket and called this done!

Stampin Up Sunday butterfly frame card

This week one of my friends at work left our team for a superb promotion. It’s been an emotional week, as whilst I am really proud of her and wish her well, I am going to miss working with her on a daily basis.

This is the card I made for her.

I decided to stamp the Butterfly Brilliance stamp onto some of the Butterfly dsp and die cut it. Then I used four of the butterflies to make this card.

I created a frame with the Petal Pink cardstock and the background using some very old embossed speciality paper I stumbled across in my stash. I then had two butterflies inside the frame and two on the top.

I gave the frame panel some splatters of white gesso and some shimmer ink to add some fun arty splashes and also inked up the edges using my distress oxides.

I chose a Crafters Companion stamp set for the sentiment and embossed it in gold and punched one end into a pennant. I then added the frame panel to a card made from soft sea foam which I had lightly inked around the edges.

Inside the card I added some strips of the dsp and cardstock I had cut into little pennants and inked and added a little die cut butterfly to finish off.

Really happy with how it came out.

Wishing Abbie all the best and know however much I will miss her, she is doing the right thing.
