DT: ATSAM – #445 die cuts and stencils

Hi! Today I have another design team contribution for Addicted to stamps and more where our challenge is die cuts and stencils. Well I ended up combining the two by making a stencil out of the die cut!

I started by die cutting the background out of white cardstock and then making an inky background to go behind this … this created a pretty pink background on which I knew a floral element would look best.

I thought I would go for a wreath first of all but then decided not to stay with a wreath but to just put one down as a base and then I chose Jar of Flowers for the main feature. I coloured in the flowers with my promarkers before fussy cutting them out. I then punched the jar and added the little bow to it. I added a little foam behind to give it some dimension before adhering it to the background panel.

I decided it need tie in the black more so used the biggest wish stamps for the sentiment and used black for framing them.

Inside the card I used a die cut scrap to create the stencil and used the same pink inks to add a little interest inside the card.

I added the panel to the front of a 5×7 card and then added gems to finish off.

Pleased with how this came out. Must admit that background die creates a lot of little bits of card and the carpet is now rather in need of a vacuum but I do love the background regardless!

Firstly I forgot how much I loved this combo of the jar of flowers stamps and the jar punch… but I also forgot how fiddly working with vellum can be if you don’t like seeing adhesive through the vellum! So let me explain what I did for this card.

Well I started with a cream base and used an old Memories and More card I had in the stash to make the background because that has some distraction just in case I needed it when it came to adhering the jar of flowers!

The flowers and stems I stamped, coloured and fussy cut from cream cardstock. What you can’t see is that I didn’t line them up to meet as I knew I would be adding the jar ‘lid’ so I skipped a bit and that helped me extend the length of the stems a little. But I actually ended up cutting them short in the end as they didn’t look right as the longer length! Ah well.

I then punched the jar from the vellum. Stampin up vellum is a nice weight of vellum to deal with and I would not want to do this with a lighter one as it would not sit as well on the card and may curl upwards or not emboss well.

I stamped and embossed the lid. Now I know if the jar did have a lid you wouldn’t be able to put the flowers in but I decided on artistic licence because I needed some part of the vellum jar to not be see through so I could use that part and the part where the twine was to add adhesive.

So once I had heat embossed I added glue behind the stamped element and then added the flowers. I then also tied the twine round so it went round the flowers as well as the jar.

Now I wanted to raise them a little off the background so I added some scraps of cardstock behind the flowers and then a little behind the stems in the jar this allowed the jar to slightly angle as I had more dimension behind the flowers than the stems which I hope means that the jar is less likely to bend upwards as I am not adhering the bottom as such!

What I did do to add to this though was to place a sentiment on both the jar and the background to try and anchor it in place further down.

I then added the little gold flower sequins as embellishment and called it done! What do you think?

I’ve made a lot of cards using the jar of flowers combo and still get pleasure out of doing so … so you can probably tell this one is staying in the stash for a little longer!

More jar of flowers notecards

I had stamped a few extra floral images so decided to colour then up and use them to create a couple of notecards using the leftover Rich Razzleberry cardstock I had.

I had enough to make the card blanks and the layered panels. I embossed the layered panels using the Old Paper embossing folder. I love this folder for making a grungy texture.

I used the inks to watercolour the images and then fussy cut them out. I decided to have the jars in the Rich Razzleberry too and wrapped them both with some of the linen thread (note to self… must order some more of this as not much left!)

I decided on a different sentiment for each, from the Biggest Wishes and from Cottage Rose.

Quite simple notecards but really pretty I think.

Another #sheetloadofcards

I really am on a mission to use up as much of my old patterned paper as I can and grabbed three pieces of floral themed double sided paper from the random stash and made these six cards using the May 2022 Sheetload of cards template by Call me crafty Al.

I chose to also use retired colours of dsp for the card bases and added in a little Petal Pink and Rich Razzleberry.

I made two of each type… as in what I chose to embellish them with…

Two using Nature’s Prints.

Then two with Cottage Rose…

Finally two using Jar of Flowers…

I kept the cards pretty simple although did use dimension for a few bits and bobs to give them a bit of something going on!

Love how these came together and of course the Biggest Wish sentiments just finish them off perfectly. Please to have used up retired cardstock and three pieces of my 6×6 dsp too!

UK stampers forum tag swap

Today I have the tag I made for UK stampers forum swap this month.

I used some lilac cardstock and then added stamping from the Very Versailles stamp set. Next I used a strip of the paper I have been using from Making Cards magazine this month. I tore it and inked it before sticking it down.

I then stamped and watercoloured the Jar of Flowers stamps and fussy cut the flowers out and punched the jar. I added these to the tag with some paper twine around the top.

I then stamped the sentiment and added that too.

Then added ribbon and some glossy accents as added texture.

Love this cute tag.

DT: Craftyhazelnuts patterned paper challenge

So at the start of the year I thought I would do one sheet wonders all year for the Craftyhazelnuts patterned paper challenge but this month I didn’t fancy it and instead grabbed what was left of a piece of dsp from a project I made a while ago and created four cards using just 1 panel of dsp for each.

The paper I used was the expressions in Ink dsp in the Pale Papaya pattern. Love this paper so much and with the gold elements in it, it really doesn’t need much else to make it special. But I then grabbed some of the shimmer vellum in soft succulent and pale Papaya to add some more shimmer.

I decided to punch the jar out of the soft succulent and create 4 flower arrangements. Two I did using the Jar of Flowers rose stamps and the other two using the Berry Blessings stamps where I turned the berries into ‘peaches’? Well they look fab regardless of how real they are! 😆

I added some bakers twine to each jar and two of the jars I added some foam behind them to give them dimension.

I added sentiments from the Sweet Strawberry stamps set and then used the banner punch for the ends.

I also added some of the glitter gems in gold to go with the gold bits in the dsp.

A fab set of little cards … sorry I didn’t stick to the OSW idea I had but sometimes you just have to go with the flow of what you fancy creating!

MIA again… quick little cards

So I’ve been very much MIA the last couple of weeks. Firstly a holiday and also been super busy with work. Today I managed to tidy the craft desk a bit and made some cards using gifted papers from a swap (thank you whoever sent these… they are so pretty) and Jar of Flowers stamped images I had stamped and coloured some time ago.

The photos don’t show the glitter and metallic elements so much but these cards were quick to put together and it was good to just get something made. Going to leave them without sentiments for now and maybe add sentiments another time when I am deciding to use them.

I’ve managed to sort a pile of small scraps out too so likely to do some die cutting soon to get some bits done and dusted ready for projects but for now… this is me done. Hopefully will get some time to finish the Christmas in July challenge and also play with new Christmas goodies I’ve got ordered (some have been delivered!).

DT: Craftyhazelnuts patterned paper challenge

Another month has passed so quickly… and it’s time to use up some patterned paper for Craftyhazelnuts challenge. I chose to do another one sheet wonder challenge.

I chose a graphic black and white paper and used the following template I had drawn up…

And I set to with the paper and black card to mat each layer.

Next I added some coloured cardstock as bases.

Then with white cardstock, ribbons from the stash and stamped images I made them up into fun cards.

Mixed Media Monday – Project half done: Venetian Romance and… junk journalling

So a few weeks ago I shared a post using up some of the Venetian Romance failed One sheet wonder i had found when clearing up. Well today I used some more of the paper… junk journalling!

Well I am not sure if this is junk journalling… its just making a mixed media page but hey ho!

Its a page to go into the journal I am doing under the title of junk journal!

Can you spot the patterned paper piece? I actually used the reverse of the paper in the grey and yellow rather than the coastal cabana … I thought it worked better this way!

I also added lots of other stuff from the junk journal box, including gelli prints, book print and played with plenty of fun mediums like paint and distress crayons.

Super happy with how this page came together… and two more pieces of the paper used! I still have a fair amount left to use… wonder what else I will make with it?

World cardmaking day card

So a few weeks ago it was world card making day and I made a card to send to a random person in a card exchange.

I used some of the lovely Flowers for every season dsp and teamed it with Pretty Peacock cardstock. Then used the Jar of Flowers stamps and embossing to add the focal feature.

I added some strips of washi tape to add some glitter and different textures.

I decided to add colour to the flowers using Prismacolour pencils.

Hope my random person liked it!
