Colour my Monday! Melon Mambo!

Happy Monday peeps! Hope you are having a good day!

It is the time of the week when I focus on colour… And this week is a good one! Firstly … It makes me think of Strictly Come Dancing and Dirty Dancing which is never a bad thing in my book, and secondly because it is a fun and BRIGHT colour!

Ok so it’s not the most masculine of colours, but other than that … Who can not be cheered by a bit of Melon Mambo in their lives!

However what to make did stump me for a little while. I started with a piece of Whisper White and decided on making a bit of a grungy type background using Midnight Muse, Wisteria Wonder & Smoky Slate and a combination of the Off the Grid, Dictionary and the Gorgeous Grunge stamps. I also edged it with some ink to define the edges a bit more.

Whilst putting these stamps away I spotted my all time favourite set of SU stamps Forever Young and thought the clock would be the perfect focus for the card. So I stamped it in the fabulous bright Melkn mambo direct onto the background, and then again onto another piece of card to fussy cut it out. Then I did the clock part again in the Smoky Slate and cut that out too.

I layered the clock onto the background and then the same with the clock face. I then added glossy accents to the clock face to give it a raised and … “glossy” …. finish.

I mounted it onto the Melon Mambo cardstock, I inked one of these and left the other plain to add a different effect. Then I added my embellishment of the moment … A doily! This softened the look of the card. Then added it to a navy card blank.

For the sentiment I used the fab That’s the Ticket stamp and the coordinating punch on the Melon Mambo cardstock and stuck it off centre. Finally some bling to finish off!

Love this card… And the dark card blank and the grungy background contrasts nicely with the pretty pink and the delicate doily!

Happy crafting!

Tinsel Tuesday January sketch

Hi there! I am hoping that you are not all thinking me completely mad for starting already on the Christmas cards? Well ok I am a little mad … But if I start now I know I will have them done and won’t be rushing at the end of the year, plus I do love making Christmas cards most of the year so it is no bad thing! To be honest though I probably need make very few this year as I have a surplus … But this might make me eat through the stash I have of Christmas crafting supplies and hopefully remind me not to buy more this year!

So this year rather than a sketch a week for this challenge I am going to provide one sketch a month. From this sketch I am then challenging myself to make two cards. Now these could be 2 of the same, or similar cards, or 2 entirely different cards, just based in the same sketch. Why don’t you join me in seeing if you can create something lovely from the sketch … I would love to see what you make of it!

So first you need to see the sketch!

And here are the cards I have made using this sketch… Well actually I have only made card toppers… I decided that instead of mounting these and then having to store the card and envelope as well, I would instead make card fronts, and then mount them at the time I need them instead!

Anyways I digress…

First up … Gumball Green, Midnight Muse & Basic Black

My first card I wanted to use the gorgeous intertwining leaf that my dear friend Darcy designed for Paperartsy to create a background. I stamped it in Gumball Green and then used the aqua painter to colour ink with the ink, adding some definition to leaves. Then I stamped the word Joy from a freebie magazine set (HOTP I think) and a random dotty background stamp in the Midnight Muse although stamped it off first to make it more muted. On separate piece of whisper white I die cut the shape (a strange bauble type shape that I got a long time ago and barely used) and then stamped in the random Latin type text background stamp in a way so that not all of it stamped. Then over this I stamped the reindeer from the same freebie magazine set in Midnight Muse. I then used an old distress Stampin spot I got in a distressing kit from SU ages ago in a charcoal to edge both pieces with some sponge. I mounted the square piece onto Basic black and then onto some brushed gold cardstock from the scraps box, then added the bauble piece at the side. Next I took a scrap of Gumball Green and cut a pennant, which I also distressed, and then stamped and punched the sentiment using the That’s the Ticket stamps and again distressed the edges of that to unify it.

Love how this card came out … So different from my usual style and yet at the same time so me!!!

Right next up a different card completely.

I used some of the fab Winter Frost dsp … There are two papers where the pattern is the same but the colours inverted, so I took both of these and layered them up so the pattern continued. I then added the panel of the Basic Black which I embossed using a Saleabration sneak peek … Decorative Dots and then sponged the Whisper White craft ink onto to tone it down. The circular element from the sketch took shape in the form of a punched bauble using the Modern Ornament punch from another piece of Winter Frost dsp, and added the little satin black bow. When I fixed this to the card I used dimensional foam pads to raise it up and give it some more texture. Next the sentiment strip was a piece of whisper white, stamped in Bermuda Bay using a Woodware stamp. I edge the panel with the distress charcoal ink and then used a little star rhinestone to add the sparkle. I felt it needed edging as a topper. So I chose the basic black cardstock to finish it off!

So how about that … Two different cards from the same sketch.

Enjoy! Oh and let me know if you manage to join in this month … Will be back next month with another sketch to inspire you!

Happy crafting!
