Distress oxide ink, Swallowtail

Happy birthday KJ!

Today is one of the princesses best friends birthday… so we have been partying this afternoon.

Of course I had to make her a special card.

I chose to play with distress oxides (again!) because I just can’t get enough of playing with them. I made a background by swiping the colour on the cardstock and then spraying it to blend. This provides a stronger depth of colour. I still did some more inking on top to create more layers though.

Then once it was dry I inked the Swallowtail stamp with Versamark and then heat embossed it.

I then made a second background using the same colours and did a blended background and splattered on the Wilted Violet ink and some water droplets.

I mounted both of these onto Basic Grey cardstock and layered them up.

Brushos, Swallowtail

For ATC’S sake … #46 and #47

Two fairly simple atcs this time… this was a stamped Swallowtail on a piece of copy paper I used to mop up a Brusho rainbow I had used for another project about 8 months ago. It then sat there getting crumpled and not being used… so here is the perfect way to use them. I cut them both to slightly smaller than ATC size and then edged them with black ink. Next I added a layer of versamark and clear embossing powder and then embossed them.

I love the mottled shiny finish this gives them. I love the vibrancy of the colours that the layers of embossing gives them too.  I had forgotten how much I love brushos… think they may have to come out to play again very soon!

I then mounted them onto some navy thin cardstock to frame them.

A simple pair of ATC’S that would make very good card toppers too!

Mixed media card class… flutterbys

Tonight it is time to make cards with my friends and this time I decided to make a whole load of butterfly cards.  I gathered four stamp sets with butterflies and used different medium and techniques to make the samples.  Wonder how the gang will get on with them?

Love how varied they are and how lovely they all are.

Beautiful Birthday, Brushos, Swallowtail, Use them or Lose them

Use them or lose them #4 set 2

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!

This week I have been playing with the fabulous Swallowtail stamp.  I decided for these three cards to use Brushos to create some cool splodgy backgrounds…

All three very different.  Then all I needed to do was add the Swallowtail and a sentiment.

For each of them I edged the piece with a black pen, added it to a piece of scrap from the organised scrap box (I am defintely making use of this box this year) and added some card candi embellishments.

Love these.  Super simple to do and super effective arty cards!  This Swallowtail stamp is going nowhere! That is for definite!

Masks/Stencils, Paperartsy - JOFY, Swallowtail, Use them or Lose them

Use them or lose them #4 Swallowtail

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!

This week I grabbed an old favourite… Swallowtail.   This was my most used stamp at one point… but not grabbed it to use for a while.

I did however grab it when I made these two cards from a piece of cardstock I had lying on the desk begging to be painted!

This was the process to get the background done.  Added paint with a brayer, then through a stencil.

I stamped the main image in Archival Sepia ink and then the same for the sentiment (JOFY sentiment).  I also added a couple of brown doodly circles from JOFY in the same set.

I cut the pieces in different sizes and rotated one so that the triangles were going in different directions.  This gave both pieces a different look.  I edged them with the brown ink to frame them before putting them on to the card blanks.

I love this stamp and it was nice to play with it again.  No doubt as it’s out I will play with it again soon!

Flooding or flying

A catch up from last weeks class… another sample. Sorry been rubbish at blogging of late…

This brusho layout was a rescue of something that didn’t go to plan.  I find quite often brushos lead to unexpected results.  Usually I like them and it’s fine, but occasionally not so much.  This was one of those occasions…

image

This was a result of flooding the paper with too much water and pigment.  It is pretty gorgeous still but I had no idea what to do with it.

Then I realised I could still a resist technique. So I stamped Swallowtail in Versamark, and clear embossed it.  Now I had a shiny but transparent butterfly. So next I added Prussian Blue Brushos to the centre of the butterfly area and plenty of sprayed water…. and this is the beauty that emerged…

I love … no truly LURVE this.

Brusho magic art journalling class

Tonight we started autumn term of our art journalling sessions.  Tonight’s class was creating brusho backgrounds combined with heat embossing.
Results were lots of oohs and aahs as the brushos activated. Lots of laughs and fun was had and most importantly people went home less stressed than when they had arrived. Much needed arty fun!

Here are the results of our playtime…

Lots of cool brusho artwork.  Will start sharing the samples soon. Just not had much time to get round to blogging of late. Life far too busy.
