Christmas in September – trimming the tree

Hello!

So to keep our focus on Christmas crafting all year round our Christmas in July Facebook group decided to have a monthly prompt and this months was Trimming the Tree.

And my response to this prompt was to go full on shine and texture and well a bit mad really!

Here is my card…

I used the background die elements from a Spellbinders stitching die set as I thought baubles should feature heavily – but wasn’t in the mood for stitching – so instead a foiled background used for the die cut and then I used red for the baubles.

For the main element in the middle came a tree / but this time one of those die cut trees I had in the box and I went to town on inking it with different green colours and then cut a shiny black pot for the base.

I used gold for the tops of the baubles and then some red gems to finish off the tree.

There is so much shine on this and the dimension from the tree which I popped up on foam. I then added the die cut sentiment – I thought Deck the Halls was the right one for this prompt!

Now the final question is do I like this card? Well not 100% – I wish (hindsight is a wonderful thing) I had inked up the foiled background die elements to tone down the colour as the green is too bright I think – I also think that a different red for the baubles would have been better – although I did ink them so they are better than they started.

But I don’t dislike the card – I think it is fun and certainly eye catching and I love the inky tree and will never not love the foiling!

So a little bit mad as cards go – but sometimes that is what happens!

If you want to join our Facebook group please do … hopefully the inspiration from all the makes in there will help you with your festive creations too!

Happy crafting!

Catherine
