Playing with balloon celebrations

Hello folks!

I got this new stamp set (Balloon celebrations) courtesy of my friend Helen who is a SU demo which has a coordinating punch.  I love it!

This is my first real play with it though.

These were simple cards made in an hour trying out the different stamps. Particularly like the last one and the one without the balloon best.  Might just have to use these a lot in the next few weeks!

Use them or lose them #1 … set 2

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!

Well I am back with another use for Butterfly Basics… defintely a keeper for my Use them or lose them challenge!

These two thank you cards were created to say thanks for Christmas gifts so have already been received by the people they were destined for!

I used the SU pens to colour the stamp directly to get the flower and leaves coloured correctly.  I also added some layered stamping with the other stamps.  The little splodges in the background are from Awesomely Artistic and the sentiment from Itty Bitty Banners. I used a piece of dsp from the scraps box for the background.

The envelopes I added the fern leaves in two colours of green to finish off.

Cute little notelets made with just a few lovely stamps… This set is going nowhere!

Handcarved stamps

Today was a bit of a write off. Two hours sleep does not a happy crafter make. Plus another trip to the doctors for an increase in my medication. All of which resulted in me heading back to bed for the day and pretty much staying there. So much for an empty house and getting back into the craft room.

I didn’t completely waste the day however as I managed to sort some of my pc files out and blog hop and carved a couple more stamps to go with the others I made new years eve.

Wonder if you can work out the project I am planning to make with these?

Use them or lose them stamp challenge #1

So this year I have decided to challenge myself to make a set of cards, scrapbook page or journal layout using each of my stamp sets as I know I have some I rarely use!  Time to change that! Given I’ve counted over 52 stamp sets that are SU sets I guess that should keep me going throughout the year.

I thought to make life easy in doing the challenge… I would just work my way through the stamps as I come across them, rather than sticking to an order and then not being inspired.  But any that don’t get used in the year will have to be placed in the unloved pile and get sold/ given away at the end of the year!

So first stamp set for the challenge is Butterfly Basics.  This was a card that was inspired by a 10 in 20 youtube video I saw… but I changed it up a bit as I wanted to also use the embossing folders and dies to add texture and a bit of grunge to the pretty images.

I grabbed six pieces of white card stock and stamped the fern in old olive three times without reining to get the different tones of the same colour.  Then I used Crisp Canteloupe for the flowers, again stamping 1st and 2nd generation ink.  Next I stamped 1 butterfly using Calypso Coral direct onto the cardstock, and then again twice onto different white cardstock for punching them out. I also edged each white cardstock topper with Promarkers…. I used oatmeal and sandstone.

Next I stamped the sentiment in Black Versafine over the top of the stamped images.  To this I then added the little punched butterflies and some dots of liquid pearl.

I then took pieces of Old Olive cardstock and Crumb cake cardstock to make mats.  The bigger one I embossed using different embossing folders for each one, and the second I die cut parts using some new Tim Holt dies I got.

I love how they all look different but are obviously part of the set.  I also made an effort on the envelopes…

So one stamp set down… think this is for keeps as the cards are so pretty!

Might even have a see what else I can use this set to do before the end of the week.

A different kind of painting and paper!

For the last few days we’ve been in decorating mode…. not exactly the kind of paint and paper I am most happy with… changing the princess’s bedroom into a more grown up room that features her favourite colour – blue!

So no crafting for me… just plain old hard work from all of us (grandparents joined in today too!).

Although we still have a long way to go on sorting things out and putting things back on her room (ours is a disaster zone) the bulk is done and it’s looking cool!

Love the chalkboard effect wallpaper.

Cute flower lights she had already but they have now moved wall.

Photo frame I did her for christmas is looking good too (along with new bedding and cushions).

So with just (she says so with plenty of irony) the sorting and putting away to be done I might get some crafting done and have some chill time.  I certainly need some!

Happy new year! Introducing the Use them or lose them challenge!

So it is a new year and time for me to clean up my act… well tidy up the craft room at least!  In the last few months my health has not been at its best and I did some thinking about my crafting.  I was struggling to create as I was getting overloaded and have decided to do have a little resort and sense check.

I am guilty of buying new crafting supplies and not really making full use of them.  I am guilty of buying new crafting supplies and then never using them through inertia or lack of inspiration.  No more.  I also have supplies I no longer love or am unlikely to use again.

So 2016 is the Use them or Lose them year.  I’m going to work through stamp sets to decide if I love them or not and then if they make the grade for staying, so be it.
I’m also going to start using that massive stash of paper up… If I can’t see a use for it it will not get to stay in my craft room.  Same with dies and embossing folders and any other supplies hanging around.

Anything I can sell, I will.  This way I can reinvest in new supplies…. but only if I can genuinely see why I NEED them.

So who else is like this??? Please tell me I am not alone.  Is anyone else going to join me in the decluttering mission of the year?

I am also NOT going to join any other challenges with the intention of finishing them… It never happens and then I feel disappointed… so if I never intend to finish them in the first place, disappointment isn’t possible!  I have my circle journal and crafting with friends to keep me going instead. Oh and one more little secret thing going on I can’t tell you about yet! (He he he… you will have to wait for this!).

I didn’t manage to keep to my ‘resolution’ of not buying any tree stamps … Wonderland stamps were my downfall! Nor the one about not buying any christmas paper … blaming the class and commissioned cards for that though and used most of the paper up on paid for projects so think that could be excused.

Going to try my best to try those resolutions again this year… but know full well I will struggle!

Anyways today’s craft is related to a challenge i aim to join in with every december and never manage to… #carvedecember where Julie Fei-fan Balzar inspires us to carve stamps! So last night I finally made a few stamps carved from scraps which will come in handy for a project I have in planning!

image

The second I made a typical stamp carving mess…
image

Deliberate error to do it the correct way round which means it is actually the wrong way when stamped.

So rescue job…
image
Well of a sort!

I then made a few more from the last scraps.

So with the least successful crafting post of the year done with nice and early it’s time to get back on with the decorating of the princess’ bedroom before spending the rest of the day with the parents.

Happy crafting!

Last of the best of 2015

Finally my favourite of my festive cards to be shared with you.  As I make christmas cards all year round I had to go all the way through my blog to ensure I had got all of the ones I wanted to share again… and yes there were quite a few so a collage pic for you again!
image

Such a variety of styles and techniques I’ve explored… and could add so many more to this too! Especially the cards i made for ny hubby and princess… But I figured this would be enough to round off the year.

And now I want to take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year and thank you for visiting my blog this past 12 months. Hope to see you again in 2016!

As always, happy crafting!
